Q: Good morning 5i
Missing from my notes is the reason for opening a position in crius energy. I thought it was on a positive comment or portfolio inclusion at 5i. But I can find neither direct reference.

Would you please remind me of the attractiveness of kwh ......recognizing this is not a fortis or Brookfield size/risk type company.

What is it that is not working and dragging the stock price down?

Thanks
Dave

Q: I use the SSO ETF for trading in my US investment account. The ProShares Ultra S&P 500 ETF provides 2x leveraged exposure to a market-cap-weighted index of 500 large- and mid-cap US companies selected by S&P. As a levered product, SSO is not a buy-and-hold ETF; it’s a short-term tactical instrument. The 500 underlying companies are some of the most well-known firms in the world. As a short-term instrument, the total cost of owning SSO is more dependent on liquidity than management costs. Fortunately, the fund is extremely liquid with hefty daily volume and very tight spreads. Ultimately, SSO’s liquidity makes it one of the best ETFs for leveraged exposure to the S&P 500.
What are some similar leveraged Canadian ETF's mirroring large and mid-cap CDN companies.
Thanks

Q: I am about to withdraw "funds" from the RRIF for the fist time. The RRIF has positions in both a balanced portfolio and an income portfolio. I intend to withdraw positions in kind and pay the withholding taxes from the cash on hand in the RRIF. And I am wondering, what positions to withdraw, like balanced or income and also those with price momentum or drifted lower recently.
There are balanced positions like CSU that is at or near a 52 week high and then there is TOY that recently declined from its high. On the other hand, there is an income position like BCE that has declined from its high and also ECI that might be considered a buy now.
What would you suggest are the factors that
I should be considering in make my choice? .......Thanks.....Tom

Q: I'd like to understand the taxing of distributions/Dividends better

For example CAD dividends receive the dividend tax credit. But other distributions are taxed as interest, others maybe capital gains? like AW income fund. REITs etc

Could you outline the different types of taxation that can happen for cash paid out from a publicly traded canadian security, AND how to distinguish what type of distribution a certain security makes.

Q: With re balancing in my cash account I have a capital gain of $25,000 in 2018. If I were to sell my CGX, ENB and GUD I would have a loss of $14,000. My thinking is that this loss would offset the capital gains.

I intend to re buy these 3 stocks after the 30 day period,

Does this make sense?

Thank you

Sincerely

Mike

Q: Hi Peter, bought more GUD today and have a quick curiosity question on what they do with all the cash reserves while they wait. It looks like ~$788M vs 142.8M shares = ~$5.52/share. I'm assuming that with that magnitude of funds they'd get a pretty decent rate/month; but is that what they do ? Also, what size ($) of company would/could they target with the amount of cash they have ? And, is the thought that any purchase would be NA based or does that matter ? Thanks.

Q: Recently i placed a stop loss on one of my holdings. BAD news and the first trade of the morning was 20 per cent below my stop loss Needless to say, I did not get taken out. I was stuck at the current trading price at that time Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Hope Ive explained myself properly Thanks
