Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I currently hold TCN and REI in my TFSA. I am thinking of selling them and replacing with IIP.UN and CAR.UN. I am looking for income with some growth. Do you recommend this or would you leave things as is or possibly consolidate to just one? If so, which? Weighting is high - 17% for REI and 10% for TCN.
Many thanks for your great service!

Q: My question is about Meta - META.V, (previous name recently was NAC - National Access Cannabis Corp)
They appear to be getting a lot of rights and/or contracts to distribute cannabis throughout Canada and the stock is reacting very strongly lately on that speculative news.
With legalization occurring in mid-October this year, how do I go about valuing this company to predict a future stock price in 6 months or 1 year?
Thanks for your time and advice

Q: I have a question that may be of interest to some of your subscribers who, like me, are relative novices at investment. I've been reviewing my portfolio -- specifically Payout Ratios (I'm using Morningstar data, so there may be some variance when compared to other reporting agencies). I hold the following stocks with payout ratios beginning at 130%; however, two reach into multiple hundreds. VET and AQN are not included in your model portfolios, but ENB and PKI are in the 5i Balanced portfolio; CSH.UN, ECI, and ENB, again, in the 5i Income portfolio; and CLIQ in the 5i Growth portfolio. My question, quite simply, is: Why should we not be concerned about the stability of dividends from these companies? Thanks.

Q: Greetings, I have a portfolio of Canadian and US stocks that is weighted about 60% in banks and insurance companies. I want to hold dividend paying stocks and am considering AQN, CU, & EMA to get more exposure to utilities (have Enbridge already) and PG for a consumer staple. Does this make sense or are their other names in the utilities and consumer sectors to consider?

Q: A few years ago you recommended using longrundata.com. This was a fantastic site. I made a lot of money by utilizing the information I could obtain from the site. It was an eazy method of finding annualized total returns and dividend increases. Longrundata is no longer in operation. A few months ago I asked you if there was a similar site that I could use. Your reply was that you would investigate to see if there was an alternative; maybe something 5i could get into.
I would be more than willing to pay an extra subscription fee if you could duplicate longrundata.com and I'm sure many of 5i's subscribers would also be interested.
Any chance of reviving this site?

Q: This is a macroeconomic question about the oil patch. I own a property in Fort McMurray which was burnt down in the fire and is being rebuilt completing this October. Since then I have moved on, so I am not planning to go back there. If you were in my shoes would you sell now or rent it out and sell later?
