Q: Hello,
I've held shares in SLF for a couple of years now and even taking into account the dividends, I am slightly underwater.
From all indications, the latest quarter was good. If I listen to the pundits, the environment for the company, and insurance companies in general, is positive with interest rates increasing but yet the shares don't seam to go anywhere.

In your expert opinion, what would explain the lack of positive momentum for SLF? Is there something fundamentally wrong with the company? Is their large mutual fund business segment worrying investors because of competition from ETF's?

I am more than willing to give this company more time and am very interested in your thoughts.

I thank you in advance for your reply.

Q: Do you have estiamtes for GC's earnings tomorrow? I seem to remember that last quarter only had a few weeks of the new Ontario bundle included in them... am I correct on that? I have been wanting to add a position on the pullback, and earnings kind of crept up on me. Would it be a good buy heading into earnings, or would you wait until later in the week?

Thanks for your help!

Q: Boston Pizza has been declining for the last three months and in particular since the release of the quarterly earnings. What would be your opinion of the company going forward.
Please compare Boston Pizza with A&W and the Keg as to which would be a better choice.
Are there other restaurant royalty companies I should be looking at?
Thanks for the excellent service.

Q: Hi 5i,
Assure Holdings (IOM) finally got their 2016 restatement and 2017 FY report filed and apparently are working to a relatively near target on filing their overdue quarterly report. Once that is in, presumably they’ll be able to get the CTO lifted and resume trading. How do you think the filed reports look for resetting market valuation of the business? What would you do if you were holding shares when trading is resumed? Thanks!

Q: Hi, 5i
I have been baling out since the past 2 months .... so the cash is quickly accumulating. I found some good replacements and do not think it is so bad to get a solid 5% than a potential future 20% loss.
This morning, Berman has suggested zwu as a good investment.
Your opinion would be appreciated, and your reason why you like it/ do not like it very helpful.

Q: Hi, please give me your thoughts on this microcap. The main product, MobiKEY, seems useful for data security and privacy. Do you see data security/privacy as an area for growth in light of the recent FB data issues? Any other names to watch or look at in a similar business? Thanks.

Q: I have a small position in GWO, more in MFC and most in SLF. I would like to either own one or two of these. Which do you feel has the most potential? With the cash from the sale what would you recommend in the health sector?
Thank you,
V.

Q: Hello: I thought I heard David Driscoll on BNN the other day saying that when holding "cash" for clients in Canadian accounts he buys Bankers acceptance notes. Could you please help me understand what these are and how they compare to other fixed income products such as GICs. Thanks very much

Q: As a small investor I am getting tired of companies issuing more shares to line their pockets ,a lot of times it is for a good purpose but lately it seems they are just cashing in and hurting investors .In the past I would vote on these matters but don't any more when I realized how futile it was.The big pension funds should be holding these boards accountable as they have most of the shares ,are they all scrubbing each others back? When you look at the compensation these ceo's and boards make the greed is getting ridiculous .I think they are making enough without having to raid my bank account. Sorry for the rant but something has to change.
