Q: Today Rose Ambrose ,who is involved in the NAFTA talks, indicated that unless Canada compromises Trump will impose the 25% auto tariffs on September 1, 2018.

So how can Canada negotiate/compromise if our negotiators are not invited to participate in the negotiations between the Mexicans and the Americans.

Since very little time is left between now and September 1, 2018 and since Canada is sidelined, is it fair to assume that Trump’s 25% auto tariffs will be implemented?

What is your opinion?

Q: Hi there, I owned ala.r which were converted into ala. On my statements, the firm took back all the dividend income I received from March to July of this year (even though it was supposed to be interest income, not dividend income). I got a return of capital and interest equaling the dividend amount clawed back. The vast majority was ROC, with minuscule interest. Ala.r was supposed to pay an equivalent amount of interest to holders of ala.r as the dividend was. So since March 18 I did not receive that, just a little interest. The way I calculate it, Alta gas got the use of my investment for five months basically free. Do you agree. Tx. John

Q: I have complied a list of what I believe are all high quality microcap stocks with current market valuations that are still very attractive and have good upside potential over the next 12 months. How does 5i ranks these stocks and am I missing some obvious microcap stocks with similar traits?

Q: Hi guys,
Given the strong suggestions Trump will carry through with his threat for a 25% tariff on Canadian autos next month, and the rock solid guarantee this would lead to a huge drop in the Canadian markets, would you delay new investments in Canadian companies for a bit?

Q: Are you aware of any pharmaceutical companies involved in clinical trials of products used to treat actinic keratosis, a very common skin condition in seniors caused by sun exposure (sun damaged skin)? The main current treatment is with Efudex, supplied in Canada by Valeant. Treatment with Efudex is effective, but a bit brutal, akin to burning the outer layer of skin, causing short term discomfort and disfigurement (personal experience). A Dermatologist I saw recently stated that there are a number of current clinical trials taking place with alternative treatments of a more benign nature. He felt that this would be revolutionary in treatment and suggested that these companies would be extremely successful given the frequency of the problem and the escalating risks of sun exposure. He did not provide any specific company information. Any information that you or your members could provide would be helpful in researching a speculative investment.
thanks, Len

Q: I'm not happy with MKS (down 28%) and considering selling in favour of BOX or GRUB. Can I have your thoughts on this move and which do you prefer at the moment? I do not need income and am OK with reasonable risk over a 3-4 yr period.

Q: Could I have your top 3-5 Canadian stock recommendations (any sector, growth focus although dividend would be nice) for a RESP? Present value is $30k with about 50% in US/EAFE ETFs, and 10% in XIC. The rest is in Canadian banks, utilities, telecoms. No withdrawals needed for 12 yrs.

Q: hi Ryan I have vet fo a long time and enjoyed the div .
However I am getting frustrated with the huge swings in such a short time I hold 1250shrs and in the last month they drpped 10m$.
Takes a lot of div to get that back cnq my other holding is not much better.
My thinking is to sell both and sit on the cash and wait till this sector shows that it is investable ..
Your thoughts on my rant.
Kind regards
Stan

Q: I'm wondering if 5i (or if you think others) are starting to warm up to this name a bit after the last few quarters? It obviously has a checkered past with its previous relation to PHM but it trades at a fairly steep discount (2018 EV/EBITDAe) to other TSX listed healthcare names (SIS, CRH, etc.). My thinking is that this valuation gap should close with continued performance.
Thanks for the great service.

Q: Hi 5i Team,
I had to dump TCEHY for a 15% loss today after riding it down from the highs based on continued negative volatility with the stock. I am thinking of buying some of your favorites to replace it, with stable growth in mind. I am looking for companies that have also pulled back recently, and that you consider a good buying opp today. I am looking at initiating a position in CSU, COV, PBH, and possible ADDING to TSGI as I am now down 20% on that one and am thinking that averaging down may be the thing to do here soon. Do you have any other better suggestions or top picks you can suggest? ( I already own TOY, PHO, GSY, FB, BABA, ENB, RHT, HD) Thanks for you input.
Shane.
