Q: In the midst of portfolio rebalancing for the coming year and have another question with regard to composition. I've been reading your comments around the positive prospects for tech in 2024 and want to overweight that sector. I am currently at 18% tech (NVDA, MSFT, LMN). But I also hold GOOG (technically Communications) at 5.46% and AMZN (technically Consumer Cyclical) at 7.39%. Within the context of an alpha-balanced portfolio, would you recommend increasing my tech holdings further, or do you believe I am sufficiently weighted in this sector given my additional holdings in AMZN and GOOG? Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i,

I would like to sell BEPC to benefit from tax loss and buy back in 31 days.

Portfolio includes:
2.5% Fortis
2.5% BEPC
1% PIF

Also have :
2.5% BIP.UN
1% BAM
2% BN

I am retired, like dividends and some growth.

1. Looking for a proxy for BEPC for one month
2. Your suggested mix of Utilities.

( Will probably increase BAM some more.)

3. PIF - I like the dividend but volatile for a utility and hasn't gained SP for many years. I have a small loss. Is the dividend secure? Any reasonable gain anticipated over next year or two for PIF?
Might gains be a little more outsized due to interest rate reductions in next year or so?
Do you think it could be a takeover candidate?
Should I hold this or sell?

Thank you for your usual great advice.
I prefer more rather than less detail. (Subtract as many credits as needed.)

Q: May I ask a follow up to my using a 20DMA as a potential entry point for a stock purchase. I picked the 20 day average because when members ask for suggested entry points you seem to respond with values within 2-3% of the current stock price. I agree a 50 day average has more of a margin of safety, but seems to be more value oriented and the stock may never drop that low within a shorter time frame. Thank you

Q: Peter,
what would be your list of baby Mag 7 that have high probability of solid growth and show possibility of becoming the new Mag member? Do you see AMD as a potential contender?

Q: Please, rank from most to least recommended and why? Are there any companies outside of Canada that you think might be preferable? If so, how would you rank them? If there is any other information that you believe might be useful then let me know.

Q: HXS has has a management fee of .10 but as they state this does not include a swap fee of approximately 30 bps. Is the actual management fee .40? Is the swap fee related to the total return nature of this ETF? I’m looking for an S&P ETF to hold in my TFSA and HXS seems like a great option as I wouldn’t be subject to withholding taxes. Do you feel HXS is a better choice then VFV for a 10+ year hold inside a TFSA due to the savings on withholding taxes?

Q: Hi, Hammond Power stock continues to make new highs every day. Scarcity of sellers and low liquidity is evident. An order for sale of 8000 shares at $84.82 was quickly snapped up by hungry buyers, in no time. Besides the low float, what are the fundamentals driving the stock with this incredible strength? How is the valuation today, with the elevated prices? If there was cash to deploy, would 5i consider increasing its position in the Portfolio, at these levels ? Thank You

Q: The two least profitable stocks in my entire portfolio are SIS (up an anemic 6% after two years) and PBH (up 10% in the same time period). I'd like to replace both with something growthier - but here's the catch - I want similar dividends (+/- 1%) and I want Canadian replacements in the same sector. My only other Consumer Defensive is COST. Current industrials are WSP, HPS.A, J, and TFII. I would welcome your speculation on how SIS and PBH are likely to grow this year...and what potential replacements might be. Thank you.
