Q: My daughter TFSA contains the above stocks. She can add 1 (full position) or 2 (half position) this year. What would be a good fit for her present holdings? Would you suggest selling Stella Jones &/or Telus and replacing it with something else? She has a long time frame as she will not need the money in the foreseeable future.

Q: I have some money to deploy, and would like to concentrate on dividend paying stocks above. Do you think at the current price points I can buy in or would it be wise to wait for any to come down a bit? I am looking to create some dividend income.
Thanks

Q: Hi all,

I'm down on all 3 of the above stocks - but I still like them. I think I just need to be told to hang on, it can be a bumpy ride. Forgot to ask - can I add to these positions at this time, to average down?

Q: Hello. Happy New Year

I own several preferred shares issued by different companies... ENB(reset), FTS(fixed), FFH(reset), TRP(reset). I bought them many years ago and have some loss. Since they're all outside my RRSP and TFS, I'm thinking to sell all, replace them with new preferred shares issued by another companies and then claim a capital loss. Do you think it is a good idea?

Questions:
1) What preferred shares do you suggest I should buy, fixed reset, perpetual?
2) Which companies preferred shares are ok to buy?

Thanks

Q: Hi Peter and Staff
Recent questions on this REIT have met with no major concerns including quoting a reasonable pay out ratio. Scotia in their December 21st report quotes AFFO payout ratios of 107.7 % for 2018, 102.7% for 2019 and 97.4% for 2020.
What do you use in your payout ratios and how does that differ from AFFO?
Thanks for all you do
Dennis

Q: I realize that this is akin to asking you to predict the market direction, however your advice and confirmation of my thinking has always been appreciated and spot on. Often, your answers have given me the added confidence to proceed. I am going
to purchase VCNS. (800,000 +)./ As it is fairly conservative, would you purchase it all now, or buy in increments? If the latter, what amounts and how often. ? Thankyou again

Q: Good afternoon, I am looking to add 2 of the above stocks (or others if you recommend?) to a TFSA, I am tech heavy already (FB, AMZN, GOOGL, NFLX, NVDA) I am up on all of those still except NVDA. I own favorites GSY, SIS, PBH, TSGI already at full positions. These chosen stocks are all good companies, which are all down recently with the market pullback, which companies would you add? Thank you!

Q: I have been watching Weight Watchers (WTW) ever since Oprah put her considerable marketing support behind the company and it seemed to beat estimates quarter after quarter. I felt like I missed the boat when it went from $12 to $105 from Jan 2017 - June 2018. Ever since it has dropped like a rock to its present $35 price. My questions are 1) what caused this huge fall and is it over sold? 2) what are the current EPS estimates and PE? 3) when do they report next? 4) what is their debt load and is it manageable? and finally 5) do you think it offers a compelling entry point?

Many thanks
Scott

Q: Further to my previous question on these etfs. if I buy these etfs and they over time accumulate gains from distributions. And I then sell some units for income is my gain or loss solley dependent on wether I sold above or below my purchase price or could I in fact sell for my exact purchase price and still have a cumulative gain from distributions from the swap? Also in your opinion would these funds as start ups be a poor way for a retired person to avoid income as to gain on oas and gis ?

Q: If I understand correctly I would have to purchase ALA common shares no later than the close of business on Jan 23rd to get the monthly dividend as the stock goes ex-dividend on Jan 24th.
Since I sold the stock on December 24th I would count that as the first day I didn't own the stock. 30 days starting December 24th would take me to Jan 22nd, so provided I bought the stock on Jan 23rd, I could claim the capital loss and get January's dividend. Do you agree?
The stock has gone up nicely since I sold it on December 24th but it is "seller beware" so to speak! (Are the shorts getting squeezed)?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Across all accounts, our sector allocations need re-balancing. I'm trying to re-allocate money only in stocks that are already held. In the Consumer Discretionary space, should I add to GIL and/or MG today? (GIL is 2.75% and MG is 2.92% of the total portfolio)

Thanks as always for the timely advice.
