Q: In my investment statement, it shows a payment that is called a cash-lieu for TRI. Are they still paying dividends and what is this cash-lieu?

Q: We are often counselled to hold US dividend-yielding securities in an RRSP, since there are no withholding taxes (as opposed to a TFSA). However, let's say I hold a Canadian-domiciled ETF that holds US dividend yielding stocks, for example, ZDY. The ETF automatically withholds foreign tax (eg. in 2017, ZDY paid 0.140134/unit in foreign tax), that also cannot be claimed on a Canadian tax return, so isn't this just as disadvantageous as holding this same ETF in a TFSA?
Q: Ecn's preferred shares, ECN.PR.A, are down $5.00 or so since their issue last year, pay over 8% & their issuer ECN seems to be doing well. Is this quite a risky investment with a dividend of 8% percent for someone seeking yield? Is it fear of rising interest causing the drop or is there a problem with ECN that I'm unaware of? Thanks as always for your sage advice.

Q: I have 59K (38k in TFSA, 21k in Trading account). I am thinking to follow the balanced equity portfolio, so approx. $2250 each name. Time frame is less than 5 years. Two questions: Do you support this idea? If so, which names to purchase in each account? Thanks very much.
Q: Peter,
Do you have an issue with either of the following bonds?
Ford Credit - due May 8,2023 YTM of 5.167%
Brookflield Properties Corp July 3,2013 - YTM 4.199 %
I see Brookfield Asset Management bond ( 2023 ) has a YTM of 3.615%. Any reason for the difference in yield?
Thank you
Paul

Q: I have some cash to deploy. When do you anticipate updating your income, balanced, growth portfolios?
Q: ZDY.U is thinly traded, so shares must be bought/sold carefully. Looking at this security under your 'Companies' tab, I see that at the time of this writing, there is a bid of 23.25 x 22000 while the current market price is 23.27. If I put in a sell order at 23.25 at that very instant for less than 22000 shares, is it likely that the order would get filled and my shares would sell at 23.25? Thank you.

Q: Could you please explain the process of and the reasons , including pros/cons, for the ENGH stock split that was announced later in December. What actually is going to happen - I don't understand exactly what they mean by doing it by way of paying a dividend ? Isn't a stock split usually done to increase the number of shares available .
I hold the stock and have been very happy with its performance but find this confusing and am not sure what I will end up with.
Many thanks, as always.

Q: At current levels this ETF is down ~21% from highs set in January 2018. With a ~4% yield and 18B in net assets would you see the current levels as attractive to begin to step into the ETF? In your opinion is brexit already priced into this ETF, or would expect more downside should brexit go through? Your thoughts on the opposite scenario where Britain remains in the EU would also be appreciated. Thank you.
Q: I am interested in an AI/Robotic ETF. I know you have recommended BOTZ in the past.
Are there any Canadian ETFs in this space you would suggest? Thank you.

Q: Watching the new Planet Earth series on Netflix, I noticed the incredible footage being done with drones flying through the trees and between mountain crevices etc. Also, it seems they are somehow getting video cameras on the backs of birds. Crazy amazing footage. Is NVDA involved in this technology?
