Q: Hi 5i!
Pretty tepid reaction to yesterday's news. Even on today's broad market bounce, the stock doesn't seem to get any traction, holding barely into positive territory. And after a 50%+ fall from its june high, what are your thoughts on such negativity on TSGI? Has the fundamentals changes this much in 5-6 months? In hindsight, this feels like such a fad...

Anyways, thanks for 2018 and a Happy Holidays to all of you folks at 5i !!!

Q: Hi, I currently own Et ,Otex ,Pho, Shop, SYZ, and i’am thinking of selling two or three and buying Csu.
I will be doing this for a more stable and overall better portfolio if or when we get a further market downturn.
Is my strategy sound? And which two or three would you sell? I would also be open to sell four and keep two of the best if this works.
Thanks

Q: Hi
What would the BE portfolio performance be without CSU Constellation Software be as holding over time? What if it was a company listed outside of Canada. With this thought, are there any companies outside of Canada that you would consider the same caliber as CSU (same sector is not important to me)? Sorry for the outside of Canada question but I am hoping to add some diversification over the next few years.
Thank you
J

Q: Hi, most of my portfolio is trying to hang in with such a volatile market, but these two companies are killing me.
I see vet is now over 9% dividend which I like, but also know nothing good comes from it.
Is it time to raise the white flag to fossil fuels and go totally renewable, or would I probably be selling at the low?
I have to hand it to the environmentalist and protesters they are doing a great job against the oil companies.
Could you give me two of your favourites for renewables.
Thanks

Q: I plan on selling VET this week and yet its share price keeps on falling. At today close I'm down about 25%. I was planning to let it go at about 22 to 23%.

Should I just sell VET at whatever price it opens tomorrow? Or you believe the majority of the tax loss selling are over and there is a chance that there could be a slight rebound. Please advise.

Q: This is a comment more than a question. By a review of the questions commonly asked on it appears that too many of us are caught up in the day to day and , week to week volatility. If the investment thesis has not changed and it still seems undervalued I see no reason why one should sell a stock based on its current trading price. For example, I own a large position in Questor and the share price has been on a rollercoaster. I stuck it out because the long term fundamentals had not changed and it is up about 15% on the year. I actually believe the fundamentals have improved materially throughout the year but one would not conclude that by examining the price chart alone.

Q: Hi 5i.

I made an impulsive and uneducated buy of ALA a few months ago and have been rewarded with a 45% kick in the you-know-what. Fortunately, it has been a painful but not catastrophic experience. The buy is in a cash account.

I favour a buy-and-hold strategy but ALA has me constantly questioning my next move. I understand that ALA has a lot of debt and interest rates are not helping their cause. I am expecting a cut in the dividend (like everyone else). I know you have recently published an extensive set of your own rules to live by regarding equities with one of them being 'sell your losers' (paraphrased).

Simply put, is ALA dead-in-the-water or does it have long-term possibilities?

Thanks in advance.................Martin

Q: Good morning 5i, I see CAR hit the market at $45.50 and I am in at $47. My question is how likely is that to cap the price and for how long. I am sick of watching losers so I am inclined to sell and replace it with a reit/other with better short-term potential. We rely on income from our investment so be it interest or growth it is all the same. What would be your top picks right now with short-term capital recovery in mind. I am becoming increasingly negative on buy and hold. Damn that Black Swan...wish he would move on to another victim.
thanks for your input,
Bob
