Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hello, I sold Descartes DSG quite a while back when you indicated that it was very expensive (and kept Enghouse ENGH), now that you have added DSG to the portfolio I'm wondering if I should sell ENGH and buy DSG back. Or are they 6 of one and half a dozen of the other going forward. In balancing my portfolio I trimmed some CSU because it was up around 17%, so now I do not want to invest in a much lesser quality technology company with the proceeds. Second somewhat related part to this question: I once owned QST, MCR, and BAD and sold them also quite a while ago. Now that you have renewed interest in them and added them to the portfolios I'm feeling a bit reluctant to add them back, I guess because I once sold them. Obviously you have renewed confidence in them. And I'm trying to keep to my principle of following the portfolios. Can you help me regain confidence in these three names. Thanks for great service, as always.

Q: Would appreciate your view on this etf as a long term hold for some relative safety and income using US dollars. Secondly what would you suggest as a Canadian dollar version of this etf holding a similar array of US large caps with a similar yield and low mer - would you recommend these for purchase or another pair instead - finally would you suggest averaging in for a fairly aggressive portfolio percentage (as high as 20%) or just buy and hold given the holdings -all the best - Ken

Q: It is my understanding that ZST.L does not pay out any interest or dividends but rather reinvests them. If that is the case, when one eventually sells their holdings would the gain in share price be treated as a capital gain instead of interest or dividends?
Looking at both PSA and ZST.L, apart from the face one pays out regularly and the other does not, does one stand out as a better place to park some cash to you?

Q: Hi Peter & 5i,
I have these US ETF's in an RRSP, is there any duplication here, if so, could you suggest an alternative. As always
I do appreciate your input.
Thanks

Q: Good morning gang
I am thinking of tax loss but also that that these may? fall more with tax loss season approaching. I am down on VET - 50%, SYZ - 14%, PBH - 15%, and SIS 17% in on of my non Registered accounts. (as of today Sep 18). Which, if not all would you sell and which would you buy back in 30 plus days ( or more depending on tax loss time and the depth of selling)
Thanks for all you do to keep me on track

Q: It was reported that during the month of August, Adam Gray, a director, invested over $34 million into New Flyer at an average price of $26.78. This is a rather significant investment and while the stock is up about 10% since then, I may have thought that an investment of this size would have had a greater impact. Am I underestimating the rise of 10% or is there something more at work here that is keeping the share pcrie down? I have always thought that insider buying was one fo the strongest buy signals you could get.

Appreciate your insight.

Q: In a question from Gord yesterday you suggested INO.UN as REIT that would provide investment in Germany and France. It is a small cap with a very high yield which leads me to request your assessment on the risk assessment of this company. Is the company higher risk, given it's small size and investment in Europe. Also, how safe is the dividend at it's current lofty level?

Q: FDX just reported some weak numbers. I own some shares in the company. The stock will be down today substantially based on their first quarter earnings miss and weak forecast. Would you continue to hold the shares here or switch to another company with better growth prospects. Could you please provide some rationale for your position. Thanks.
