Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I hold vgg in in TFSA and RRIF accounts , 5 % of my total portfolio. VIG in non registered US account 5% of total portfolio. I’m gradually moving from individual stocks to ETFs to reduce the time required to monitor my investments. Getting up in years .As an aside I’m an experienced investor, previously worked in the investment business. Right now I’m looking at reducing my position in vet and investing in vfv or convert C$ to US$ and buy VOO.
Your thoughts Peter on this or should I look elsewhere?

Q: Hi 5i:
I believe it would be wise to get in soon on 5G hardware producers, transmission networks, appliance manufacturers.
Aside from Canadian telecom networks I cannot readily identify any Canadian candidates.
Could you suggest Canadian opportunities, as well as a few promising US chip makers, networks, and end users?
Many thanks for your great service.

Q: The end of 2018 bmo closed at 89. and bns closed at 68., a difference of about 21.
Last Friday bmo closed at 103.80 and bnn closed at 72.48, a difference of 31.32.
Can you explain the reason for the vast under performance of bns v.s. bmo and do you plan to retain bns in 2 of your portfolios? If so,why ?

Q: Could you recommend some ETF and stocks which would have commodities as primary investments excluding oil and gas. What is your opinion of having such investments in a well balances portfolio. Also what percentage of such investments would you recommend in a balanced portfolio?

Q: Good day I have a large gain in the above stocks in an outside account. I am thinking of taking half off the table and putting it into a canadian dividend etf VDY. I understand that i would have to pay some tax but i would net a higher dividend from VDY than the other three and i live from my dividends. Or should i just leave them to grow as each is about a 4% position in my total portfolio. Could you please give me your thoughts on this....Gene
