Q: Hi 5i
In a recent question re adding to a well balanced TFSA you had offered 12 securities from your income / balanced portfolios that are relatively lower risk and longer holds. I was delighted to see that my RRIF currently has 8 of those full positions.(also well balanced)
I have accumulated a larger cash position due to dividends in my RRIF and wonder what 5 securities for long term (forever) you might consider to add at this time. Thanks for the advice. Peter

Q: I own long term positions in CSU, KXS, DSG, ENGH and GIB.A in taxable accounts. And several smaller positions in other US and Canadian tech stocks. GIB.A performs ok but not great, especially when compared to the other positions. Is it worth keeping as a major position or would you suggest selling it and allocating the funds into the other major tech holdings?

Thanks.

Q: Taking into account AD as an income trust, I presume distribution would be taxed as income and would be best in RRSP whereas TCL dividend would receive dividend tax credit and best in nonregistered accounts. To me that seems at highest marginal rate that these would provide similar incomes in above situations. Is this correct?
Secondly, do you recommend one above the other?
Income, safety of dividend and capital are the most important considerations. I prefer a long term hold and can tolerate a moderate amount of volatility.
Thank you for this great service.

Q: Thank you for your great advise. I currently have a good positive portfolio thanks in large part to your suggestions. I need to increase my consumer defensive by about 1.5%. I currently own the above companies at different weights. ATD 3.5% PBH and L at 2% and DOL at 1%. Where would you add or would you suggest another company. Please rank in terms of preference.

Thanks, Yves

Q: Regarding etfs, are there actively managed etfs? Etfs initially tracked a particular index and thus were passive and required no judgment hence their low fees. But are there now etfs with someone at the steering wheel. For example, if you have an etf investing only in tech stocks, is that etf necessarily just tracking the tech sector of a particular index, or is there actual stock selection going on? If it is actively managed, how is that etf different from a mutual fund and if the answer is just lower fees how can the etf sufficiently pay its manager compared to a mutual fund manager?

Q: About 3 months ago you provided a report on IPP.UN. By all accounts things looked favourable and it appealed to me thinking it was defensive but since then it has decreased about 15%. I recall a comment from you since then, suggesting the Gov't bringing in rent controls had a negative impact. Where do you see things going for IPP.Un from here?
I also have BIP.UN. Do you see it as defensive?
If I want to raise some cash, which would be better to keep? Thank you for your excellent service.

Q: I am thinking of an approximate weighting of 40/40/20 value wise for an income stream to offset the cost of borrowing 20,000.00 putting 10,000.00 into the investment (cash account) and the other 10, 000.00 down against my mortgage it saves about 17,000.00 on the back end of my mortgage. what is your opinion on this strategy?

Q: Hi,
In your growth portfolio what would be your top 10 list right now in terms of potential \ stock price appreciation in the next 2 -3 years? Would you be able to list them in order with a 1 to 10 rating on the risk for each one, 10 being highest risk.
Would there be another name on your watch list that could sneak into this list?
Please deduct credits as you see fit.
Thank you for your great service!
