Q: Would you please rank the 3 stocks in order of total return going forward. IFC has the best 10year return, but not so more recently. I currently own IFC and I am concerned about the effects of global warming on future performance. I am leaning toward MFC because of its recovered mojo. I sense that MFC is the most conservative play in the group. Thank you

Q: Follow-up to my question about CIB238 and PSA. Thanks for the explanation. You indicated that CIB238 pays a yield of 4.8% while PSA pays 3.4%. Are these current comparable yields? CIB238 seems high. Could the CIB238 be the yield over the past year while PSA is the current yield? If it was your $100k, which would you invest in to park money?

Q: I have been building my position in BN and now sit at 2.63% position size. I am holding a 1.72% position size in BAM in a taxable account. I am thinking of selling BAM and adding the proceeds to BN. Is this wise? In taxable accounts I am more focused on future gains than on dividend return. Currently my BAM position has a gain of 107%. I have ample capital loss reserves to cover any capital gains incurred from selling BAM.

I also hold BEP.UN (1.24% position) and BIP.UN (3.47% position) in registered accounts for diversity and income. No plans to change those.

What do you think about consolidating BAM holdings into BN?

Q: Hi Folks,

With some uncertainty in the future, including possible US tariffs and reaction tariffs, I curious if you have any thoughts on what those actions might mean for the short and medium term. I assume they would be withdrawn at some point (so not asking long term). Specifically, how banking (TD, BNS), and companies CSU and DSG and the overall TSX. Please free free to deduct 5 questions.

Q: BN got a nice bump today, about 2.6%, and the only news I could find was about their sale of some Transalta shares. Is that the reason for the jump in the share price? Do you know how much profit BN made on the sale of those shares? Do you have an idea what they plan to do with the funds? Or is there some other reason the stock jumped?

Q: The company recently sold a few large assets, a recent deal of their non regulated renewable assets and their 42.2% stake in Atlantica. I can’t see $ figures anywhere but with market cap of $2.55 B USD, I’d hope they got a raised a substantial amount.

How does this affect your view on AQN going forward? What is their current debt? I’m holding at a slight loss in a non registered account and ok holding and collecting yield if there is upside.

Q: 1. The drop in UBER’s share price seems overdone. Would you agree?
2. In your view is Uber keeping pace with the deployment of “advanced” AGI in its platform?
3. Is Uber’s management still capable of holding its own in a knife fight with Tesla, BYD, or Waymo?
4. I have used Uber in several foreign cities and am impressed by the superb level of service . Notwithstanding the query in (2) , my concern is not management but more the likelihood of Uber facing challenges from municipal governments and taxi- operators. Uber may not be out of danger from regulatory and other hurdles. Your views?
5. What do you have for forward P/E, and PEG ? (Sites I use depict wildly different ratios).
6. Do you consider Uber a buy ? If yes, what price levels would a buy seem reasonable?

Many thanks. All the best. :ao:sab

Q: I read Frederick Vetesse’s article in the Globe and Mail today (Jan. 8) about the currently high P/E ratio indicating a potential stock market crash, and would be interested in your comments on it. I’ve included the link here:

Thanks so much for your sage advice over the years, and wishing you and your team a Happy New Year!

Q: I am considering writing covered call options on Canadian banks inside a RRIF, as part of an income-generating strategy. All of the Canadian banks trade in the US as well as Canada. Would you write call options on the Canadian exchange or on the US exchange? Presumably the latter is more liquid and pricing would be better? Or would it make no difference? Is any Canadian bank better than any other for covered call writing?

Q: TIXT continues to drop (today down around 10%) with no news that I can find. Are you aware of any reason for the significant drop? Also, what is your take on how the senior executive team at Telus could have got this so wrong?
