Q: Luckily I have SHOP in my Roth IRA and need to dramatically trim.
I am currently transitioning into retirement within 6 months and want to set the Roth up as a consistent 5 to 7% income yield. I am looking at VIG and NOBL although they maybe higher risk. Would you please offer some other lower risk alternatives?

Regards,

Steve

Q: In the short term, what are the biggest risks? COVID risks, an increase in cases to restrict SMB transactions; Offering price at $37.30, can the price cross the secondary offering price without an increase in selling volume; August quarterly report, that reflects the SMB reduced transactions due to shut in businesses; or the price ceiling at $35.00, that the price can’t get across?

Q: I'm thinking about harvesting tax losses on both NFI and CAE. For NFI I would probably wait until after I receive the dividend payable to holders of record at close of business on June 30th. In regards to CAE I think we are seeing a second wave of COVID-19 building so air travel rebound may be delayed or muted. I know you like CAE but with Trump (and fellow travellers) in charge there is just not enough energy to really confront the virus so the airlines stay empty.
I have yet to rebuy any companies stock once sold. Probably should put the money towards gold, bumping up my 5% weighting a bit.
Any thoughts or concerns?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: Considering the large amounts of reserves the Canadian banks have had to put aside and the possible hit they may take in the next quarter,do you think the current stock prices are a good buy or are they overpriced ? Should a person wait for a better time to enter?

Q: Hello - I have some capital that i am looking to deploy and wondering if now is a good time or should i hold on to it.... in anticipation of another reset with news of a second wave, etc.

Also what are your top 10 -15 names right now regardless of portfolio balancing needs - open to American or CAD names - preferably limited small caps.

Lastly, i am kicking myself for not buying SHOP on the pullback.. is it still a buy right now in your opinion? or wait...

thanks so much.

Q: I'm looking for guidance and advice on BAM.
Being a long time (15yr+) holder of the security, I love the company and the management. I truly believe they are fantastic investors. BAM represents a number 3 position in my portfolio.

I fear that post covid, and after many, many companies got their first real taste of WFH on a large scale, the commercial real estate market is in trouble.

Looking to feel comfortable not selling into this fear, as I really do value the company in high regard. I just fear we have seen the peak already, at least for an extended period.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
J.

Q: Teal Linde was on Market Call yesterday and he said that the canadian utilities like Algonquin have used their clean balance sheets to leverage and buy up US utilities over the past decade (since the 2008 crisis). He said that is mostly played out now and growth will be much more challenging. I suspect this may have played a part in aqn's weakness the past two days. More important: is there much growth left in AQN's future?? I have bought a variety of income stocks that have good growth prospects (for both cash flow and dividends), and benefitted greatly. One of them has been
AQN...but is that run over?

Q: Private Equity is an area of investment that has been getting a lot more attention recently. Which listed asset managers specializing in Private Equity are worth looking at? Would the multiple-recent-name-change firm SuRo Cap Corp. be worth inclusion in this group?

Q: Hello 5i, I’ve invested a portion of my grandmother’s TFSA in CDZ looking for a decent diversified relatively low risk dividend (to be reinvested) payer, which I’ve seen recommended on here a few times. I was on morning star and I came across those two funds which seems to have outperformed despite their similarities and higher MER. Could you please explain the fundamental differences between the three and rank them from best to worst for a 5 year horizon according to your opinion? I wasn’t able to access the complete funds’ holding details. Thank you!!
