Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hello 5i I have held Luminex Corporation for quite awhile and finally the stock price is at a high. I think that the company has a quality Covid test available as well as other test kits. The company will announce there Q2 earnings Aug 6/20 after the market closes. I am deciding whether to sell or wait as the numbers could be good. My question is, does this company look like a winner now that I should let run. Thanks

Q: I've owned both these for over 11 years now and have been very happy with net returns (dividend compounding + capital). Not overweight at all: 1300 shares of each - added to over the years on weakness. My concern is the hysteria over climate change and governments actions and potential actions that have hurt O & G companies. I believe that both these companies have large investments in utility businesses and plans to expand that part of their business. Q: should I continue to hold them, add to ENB (price low), or leave my positions alone.

Q: It looks like the market likes the announced sale of Tucows TING mobile to DISH and the technology partnership between the two companies. I would love to hear your perspective with regards to what this deal means to Tucows long term.
- how big is TING mobile vs Ting Fiber vs Domain Names to the overall Tucows business?
- I thought Fiber was their future....does the partnership with DISH create new opportunities in mobile (either through technology partnerships with other mobile companies, or a large opportunity to grow with DISH)) for new avenues of growth or does it solve a problem they had with mobile that will allow them to focus more on their fiber business?
- I know nothing about DISH - are they a valuable partner?
- is TC a buy in your opinion?

Any colour you may add to this would be most welcome.

Cheers
Scott

Q: Hi,

This question is more about the sector than individual companies. I inserted GLD/XGD/JGD in the stem b/c if I put GOLD, it takes me to a small cap gold co!

An answer by a well respected senior guest on BNN made me look up the prices of Gold companies in 2011 when spot gold hit 1900+ in 2011, Alamos was 20+, ELD 100+ (really?) CG 23+, and so on and so forth.
If anything, with low interest rates and USD in shakier position compared to 2011, these companies ought to be doing much better. Yet they are still a lot lower than their 2011 prices.

Any reason why?
Will they reach their 2011 highs again? If you think they will reach their 2011 prices, what would be your picks in that scenario?

Q: I'm in the process of looking at my total portfolio and I would like confirmation on my reasoning. My four stock portfolios comprise 67%; my commercial and residential real estate holdings comprise 27% and my private equity investment in an Industrial corporation comprises 6% of my total investments. I don't consider my personal home or my cottage an investment but their estimated values are included in the above. I do not own any publicly owned stocks in the Industrial or Real Estate sector in my Stock Portfolio. Should I be considering my total portfolio for sector weightings? For example my IT sector is 26% of my stock portfolio but it would only be 17% of my total portfolio. I am retired and the investment income from my commercial real estate holdings and private equity investment provides sufficient income. I currently own some dividend paying income stocks and wondering if I should continue to own these? I know you don't provide personal advice but looking more for guidance. I know my Real Estate holdings are high at 27% but I will not be disposing of any of those properties.
