Q: Hello 5i
I'm hearing a lot of chatter about small caps having good growth prospects going forward. I believe you like IWO for US small caps.
Can you suggest 5-6 of your favorite US stocks to hold as a basket of small caps instead of IWO if one wanted to own stocks directly.

Q: COLD is included in “RBC's Top 30 Global Ideas- Q1 2021” ( released 4 Jan 2021). I compared COLD to COR and COR struck me as a better investment. RBC rates COLD Outperform and COR as sector perform. I read through the usual blurbs and recent year financials as well as generally available projections. CFRA rates both as Hold (neutral). I looked through Thomson Reuters and I think COLD has higher ratings in general (I am not sure as it is difficult to tell when the TR reports on each were actually updated).

It is unlikely RBC Capital would have picked COLD as a global best idea without studying COLD’s peers. I conclude therefore that I must be missing something. Which one of the two do YOU see as the better investment? (Important : If neither, please give names of OTHER US Industrial REITs that you prefer OVER the above-noted COLD and COR).

Q: I just took a quick look at the portfolios year-end numbers...congrats on the performance this year on all 3 portfolios.

Regarding the Balanced Portfolio, I note the asset allocation for Industrials @ 30% and Technology @ 19%, which appear to me to be almost a "bet" on these two sectors...50% allocated to these appears to be fairly aggressive. It has worked very well so far, but are you considering rebalancing at all?

Q: I currently own WSP and am looking at ACM to get more into an infrastructure play. Do you see these 2 companies as too close to be considered as diversified? If too close, then can you suggest one or two other potential prospects, other than J:US which I currently hold. By the way, thank you for that excellent suggestion.

Q: Overall I am below the recommended allocations in these sectors: Materials, Consumer Cyclical, Consumer Defensive, Industrials, and Healthcare. I have cash to allocate in my TFSA (about $8600). Which would be the best place(s) to invest now in any of these sectors in the TFSA?

Can you point me to a good actively managed mutual fund(s). with reasonable MERs. Having been a very successful manager yourself is there anyone that stands out over the longer term preferablly with a mandate bigger than Canada.

Q: I'm aware of your opinion ("agnostic") on Power Corp. Over the last 5 years POW has raised the dividend at a CAGR of 11-12%. Assuming the dividend continues to rise AND assuming no significant increase in fixed income rates for a few years, would not POW stock price rise similarly as investors look to safe, stable equities for income? Result could be combination of rising income and appreciating stock value.

Q: Hi 5i team,
Where is the PR group of KXS these days? They are strangely silent on the Blue Yonder complaint in a Texas court on patent infringement. The only item I see is the Dec 14th release saying that KSX will vigorously defend itself against the claims. That’s it. Has it gone to trial? Has KXS set out any defense? Most companies under attack would at least issue some sort of rebuttal. What do you make of this silence?
