Q: I started an RESP for my 2 grandsons about 3 years ago. Only 5 stocks in the account: 3 Cdn. banks, BAM and an energy company. It is doing much worse than my RESP or TFSA. I wanted safe, dividend paying stocks. Obviously the lack of diversification has hurt. I have some cash in account I would like to deploy. Please give me a few suggestions of companies I should add. Thx.

Q: Hi,

I've held CDZ since I first began investing on my own, about 12 years ago, and it doesn't appear to have done a whole lot. The dividend is great, mind you, but I haven't seen much growth. Over these 12 years, I've been buying many of the individual positions that form part of CDZ.

Does it make much sense to continue to hold CDZ as an anchor for my portfolio? Or can I start to wind it down and use that cash to build up other positions, while maintaining a balanced portfolio.

Thanks
Robert

Q: There was a question about US estate taxation. Here is an article I found helpful.

https://ca.rbcwealthmanagement.com/documents/233544/0/U.S.+Estate+Tax+for+Canadians+in+2019.pdf/ba88e6ce-fb64-4abe-bb57-8a6f4c3dad22

This was a key point in the document, page 5, to focus upon:

American Depository Receipts
(ADRs) — these are exempt from U.S. estate tax because the
underlying share holdings are not U.S. corporations

Q: I have been considering increasing my position since the beginning of September. Coincidentally, this is when WELL price jumped a few times. I have been waiting for a pullback (6$ was my target), but this never happened.

Argument to increase a position at this time:
1) Valuation reaching 1 bln $ - this may attract big institutional investors.
2) The stock help up well during the recent sell off, meaning strong sentiment.
3) Shareholder meeting approaching, and an announcement combined with a positive news may move the price even higher.

Arguments against:
1) Valuation
2) Potential volatility

Can you comment on the valuation for this stock? How does it compare to stock with similar risk profiles (growing small-caps)? Does the premium justify prospects in your opinion? Do you agree with my arguments, and would you add anything to my summary? Thanks for your service.

Q: I've encountered, in less than a week, no less than four articles in various media, predicting that the US dollar is going to 'crash' in 2021 with suggestions it could drop 35%-50% in the coming year. This one on CNBC is an example. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/23/us-faces-dollar-crash-high-double-dip-recession-odds-stephen-roach.html

Obviously this would be disastrous to anyone with US dollar holdings or stocks in US accounts. What do you think of this? I know you're generally against hedged ETFs but do you think that might be a decent idea now for those wanting to hold US stocks?

Q: Hello
I have an 18% gain in BEP.UN in a non registered account. I received the spin out shares in BEPC. Is there any tax advantage in selling the BEP.UN shares and buying the equivalent BEPC shares? Meaning, despite the cap tax gain hit, will the future taxation in BEPC be more advantageous over BEP.UN?

Also I recently bought GOOG C shares maybe by mistake. Is there any advantage to sell them and buy the A shares instead?

Thanks
2 deductions if you see fit.

Q: Hello,
Over the years, I've accumulated a significant amount of BIP.UN in an RRSP account, with the intention of holding it for the income generated over the long term. Since the Mar 31 split, shares of BIPC are up around 50% while BIP.UN is up around 28%.

Does it make sense to cash in this gain, sell the BIPC and use the proceeds to buy BIP.UN, thus adding some "extra" income generating units? Would also make tracking a little simpler.

Any other factors to consider?

Thanks for your time,
Roman

Q: Retired, dividend income investor. Currently own AQN, FTS and TRP. If I wanted to add a 4th name (with a focus on renewables), what would you recommend? It would be mostly in a taxable account, with possibly some in a TFSA account. Or if AQN and FTS are enough names, should I just add funds to them? If AQN-FTS are not enough names, would you consider BEPC or BIPC? I like utilizing the dividend tax credit.
Thanks for your help...Steve

Q: My question is about A2 Milk our of Australia/New Zealand but also trades on the Pink sheets. Are you seeing any reason for the 10%+ drop this morning? Looking at the fundamentals would you hold ACOPF? Thanks
