Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am an income investor who has held MFC for years. Just breaking even on price but reasonable return on dividend.

Thinking of switching to either GWO or SLF. GWO has a higher dividend but SLF may have more growth potential.

For safe sustainable retirement income what would be your preference or do you have other suggestions. I recognize that a combination of growth and income can be just as good.

Thanks,

Q: I was watching fast money while I was doing my hour cycle. What really struck me were all the special acquisition quotes I saw coming across the ticker. There must have been 5 or 6 and they were all up 10 to 50% on the day.

Now that some time has passed since ackman made a big splash with his spaq have you discovered or researched any that you like and think has a bright future as a growth investment?

Q: Hello 5i team,
Regarding REAL: you mentioned it is now a weighting decision. I am a patient investor who likes to buy quality companies while they are at bargain price. If a full position is 5% in an already diversified portfolio, up to what weighting would you recommend? What surprised (disappointed) you and the market in their quarterly results or conference call?
Thank you for your collaboration, Eric

Q: Prior to the Covid pandemic I was stockpiling cash in anticipation of a long, overdue market correction. Still buying and selling but mostly selling. I can imagine that a lot of us retirees where doing the same. Most of my portfolio I left untouched assuming yield protected it from a major downturn. Wrong!!

I never really sold but waited for the portfolio to recover as value came back in fashion. I also bought beaten down value stock (banks, insurance companies and large, unloved tech companies, etc.) as this progressed.

My question to you is this. Has my generation (approx. 140 yrs. old) stockpiled enough cash going through this to continue driving this recovery up. I suspect that this is a difficult one to answer but I didn't have anything better to do since I was dropped from the Olympic Team.

Q: In your reply to Dan regarding Amazon and high valuations you mentioned being cautious on companies with “commodity like” businesses receiving high valuations.
Could you give a couple of examples with a couple of explanatory comments so members will have a guideline on these things and know what to watch for.
Thank You for your great service
