Q: Could you tell me if because of these two mergers, were the original shares, ie, AD and POW sold to purchase units/shares in the new trust/company and thereby realizing a capital gain or loss? I cant seem to find this information from the DIY broker.
Thanks
Merry Xmas

Q: Hi, thanks for the work that you do for the average Joe.

I am about 8-10 years from retirement. Earlier this year, when good Cdn blue-chip dividend payers were "on sale", I started creating an income portfolio in my non-registered account. The idea is that these stocks would form the basis of my income in my retirement as I don't have a DB pension.

I am currently in the highest tax bracket so will pay significant taxes on the dividends that I receive until I retire, in 8-10 years.

I also have funds in my TFSA where I focus more on Growth.

Am I too young to start creating a dividend account when I'll be paying significant taxes? Should I instead focus on Growth stocks now, and convert those to dividend paying stocks when I retire?

Or does it really matter that much?

This is a non-urgent question and can wait until the NY.

Thanks
Robert

Q: Hi All: I will be Transferring 'in kind' from my open account into TFSA. In your opinions which of this list might have the better growth potential, therefore capital gain protected within the TFSA? Too Bad for the $6K limit. Would you assist me in prioritizing my list?

Q: I owned BIP.UN for several years with the spin off I was also owned some BIPC. The units have done well in the past until this year, it was flat. Meanwhile the shares have virtually doubled since their issue. I'm a primarily growth investor and sees yields as a "fringe benefits", would you consider switching the units entirely over to shares?

Certainly the deciding factor would be whether the shares' combined return (growth and yield) would outpace those of the units? Kindly share you insight on this issue. Thanks.

Q: sorry to bother you and an answer next week ( still 2019 trading) would be fine. What do you think of AMRC? Less of a risk? Still for the risk tolerant?

Merry Christmas to all of you at 5i. I noticed a subscriber coming to your defense this morning and concur with his comments. There will always be detractors, as you know, but like the great Taylor Swift would advise, "shake it off". Our financial situation has greatly improved thanks largely to your advice. Have a great holiday.
