Q: What is the economic value added by "short selling"? Especially lately, the practice seems to be driven by nothing other than greed? Why isn't it prohibited by regulators?

Q: Hi Team,
I have no exposure to the online gambling theme that seems to have promise for growth. Do you still believe that this is a good theme to be buying into for the long term? And if so, what's the best way to play it? I was thinking Flutter? But, its came a long way from its 52 week lows. What's the chances of it going back to that level and was the rise justified? And do you believe it's uptrend will continue long term? I know you also mentioned before it has a much better valuation than Draftkings, although DKNG still seems to move with more leverage for the time being. I wonder if Flutter will eye a US listing to get their valuation up? I never hear Flutter talked about on sites such as CNBC. ( I assume its because its a European Company and CNBC would rather talk about Draftkings)? Another possiblity I was looking at was Score Media. Please let me know your thoughts.

Also on a seperate topic...CELH has dipped some off its highs. Is it a buy today. And your quick thoughts on how big of potential you see this company having in 5-10yrs. Is it a stock that could multi-bag from here? Deduct as many points as required. Thanks!

Shane.

Q: I bought several inter-listed Canadian companies in the USD side of a tax-deferred account (RSP). I am thinking of selling some of these holdings and buy them back in a taxable account in order to have the benefit of the dividend tax credit. Is the dividend tax credit worth doing this? If yes, after selling on the US$ side of the RSP account , would you buy the same securities on the US$ side of the taxable account, or do you prefer to buy them back on the C$ side of the account?

Please excuse my smuggling in a question asking for your opinion on what the two currencies are likely to do in the next year or so.

Q: 1. With reference to the likelihood of interest rate increase (and increase in inflation rates) over the next 3 years, are these factors such that they are more likely than not to depress the value of CSU.db?
2. Do you rate these debentures reasonably safe given general business conditions faced by CSU in the next 3 years? I do not know what sources are reliable to check ANY issuer’s credit worthiness.
3. If you had a largish amount ( 8% of a portfolio that has no other fixed income) would you trim the holding? If yes, what would be your suggestions to buy in lieu of CSU.db? I am hard-pressed to find other securities that would be equivalent in the current TINA world.

Q: Two questions:
1) I don't have much understanding of how royalties companies in general, and OR specifically, earn their revenue. Can you provide a simple explanation please.
2) Is OR a reasonable (diversified?) choice for the only gold (or "metals") exposure in a Cdn dividend-focused portfolio? I'm reluctant to buy a mining company directly. Is there an alternative ETF with equivalent distributions?
Thank you.

Q: I have CQQQ in a tax-deferred account. Given uncertainties over China-US relations (and concerns about China’s aggressive stand on Hong Kong and her claims over Taiwan) would you buy any China ETF?
If yes , would you buy KWEB or simply add to an existing holding in CQQQ ? Or would you be fine buying both?

Q: Apologies for the dumb question, but the craziness over these short squeezes has introduced me to new ideas I don't fully understand.
1. I didn't realize I could instruct my broker not to permit my shares to be borrowed by short-sellers. But how can I lend out a share to a short-seller if I'm holding the stock the entire time? I don't plan to sell my 100 shares of LSPD anytime soon, so how can I lend it to a short-seller?
2. Can't all shareholders instruct their brokers not to permit borrowing of their shares? If so, would'nt that restrict the ability of short-sellers to short a stock? It seems like reducing the ability of short-sellers to short a stock I own would be good for the stock price.

Thanks
Michael

Q: I know you often suggest not jumping into IPOs right away, but do you think it will be a good idea to buy the new Telus International (TIXT) once it starts trading or would you wait for it to settle as well?

Thanks.

Q: This question is on IShares North American Tech-Multimedia Networking ETF which trades on the nasdaq. (your system won't bring it up for me). It's impossible not to notice it rising nicely today (and this week) while everything else is falling. It doesn't appear to be highly liquid and so I hesitate to increase my holdings. But I'd like your opinion of the ETF.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan and team,

When Topicus starts trading next week, and with an eye toward a long term hold within a TFSA, how would you rank Topicus when compared to TRI, WSP and WELL?

Thanks.

Q: Could you please recommend a couple of replacement(s) for Great Cdn Gaming? It can be US or CDN and I'd like the replacement companies to have great management teams and be in the same sector. Companies in the leisure and entertainment space you think will come out of this crisis bigger and better. It doesn't necessarily have to be a casino company. Thanks a lot.

Q: I want to build an American ETF portfolio of 5-6 ETFs that pay a decent (4%-5%) yield. I have historically bought Canadian hedged ETFs for that purpose however I think there is a possible currency advantage to be had. I have looked at many many ETF questions in the 5i ETF folder and they seem to be very Canadian based. Would you be able to suggest 5-6 US based ETFs or more if you want to add a few more.
Thanks
Norm
