Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: CRWD reports after market tomorrow. I hold it in my U$ account. Down 7%, probably paid too much for it. Buying US market is not my forte. In U$ account I hold CRWD, CAE, TIXT, in C$ account VGG and VFV. I have a balanced portfolio with a bit overweight tech.
I am considering selling CRWD on news and looking elsewhere for better opportunities. Would like your opinion . Could I have two or three of your top picks for non Canadian securities.

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. There is no question I will sell Shaw...anytime someone offers me a 70% premium, I'll take the money and run. I'm just wondering about potential risks. It looks like Rogers-Shaw have tried to structure the deal to hopefully assist the regulator to approve it. Closing is quite a way away...mid next year? Plus there is always the risk of no deal.

1. What would you do? Trim some at various levels, hopefully on the way up to $40? Wait to be taken out....for cash?

2. In other "buy out" situations like this, the stock has approached the "offer" price the day of the announcement. Could you please elaborate on an earlier question as to why the B shares are slow to rise to the offer price of $40.50? At time of typing, they are at $33.

Thanks for your help...much appreciated...Steve

Q: Good morning, I am going to open a TFSA and contribute $50K, could you please make a recommendation around number of investments, and what you would suggest to distribute the funds to, I have a middle of road risk tolerance and was thinking dividend yielding investments with a dividend to mitigate significant downside. TIA

Q: Hi, I recently transferred a roughly 90K pension into a self directed LIRA (for which funds cannot be added to). Would love your recommendations on how you would build this portfolio. Am open to any and all suggestions. I am open to growth, balance and dividends. Thank you!

Q: My son hold these tech stocks and really need to start to invest in US tech stocks as all his holdings are in Canada. He would need to sell some of these holdings to get cash so he could convert to US dollars and then buy 2 US stocks. Which stocks would you sell first and can you provide 2 US that are similar to the stocks that he would sell. He has a RRSP account so no capital gains to worry about. He has 20 years before needing to withdraw.
Thanks

Q: During recent research, I discovered a theory that even in our times of extreme volatility I should seek out companies that exhibit the following characteristics:
1. They have a history of growing dividends for investors.
2. They have a history of growing their earnings.
3. They trade at valuations that make sense.
So, based on these variables, and your years of experience, please provide me with the names of several Canadian companies that have these characteristics.

Q: I am the owner of SJR,B shares. The news release essentially says Rogers will pay $40.50/share for BOTH the A class shares and the B class shares, which represents a 70% premium for the B shares.

At the time of typing this question Monday morning, the market has the A shares at $40.35 and the B shares at $32.00.

Shouldn't the B shares be at $40 as well, or am I missing something or is the market confused?

Thanks for your help...Steve
