Q: Hi,
I have $20,000 to top up my TFSA and wonder what would be best considering my above holdings. Should I add to any of the above or can you suggest any other stock or ETF that would be most suitable for growth and preservation. Your advice is most appreciated.

Q: I have friends that have sold mutual funds and wondered why the final proceeds seem so much less than they expected based on recent monthly statement values (i.e. they've sold a day after the their last statement in an up market). Why do mutual funds valuations seem a bit contrived? Are there hidden fees deducted from the sale proceeds in general? If so, what % are they typically?

Q: I've been a shareholder for awhile. On Feb 17, 2022 Circle / Concord announced they were doubling in value (from $4.5B to $9.0B). The company was most definitely pleased to share this which would normally be positive; however, I have a few concerns / questions.
a) I feel that the value of my investment has dropped in half. Is this correct? (I like to be wrong!)
b) Does this mean that everybodies investments has dropped in half. i.e. At one point in the last 6 months I heard that Cathy Wood's funds bought millions of shares. I assume she would also be impacted. I own a few shares of one of her funds AND ask this question because, some bigger fish may not be too happy if they got impacted as well - which could have other repurcussions for CRCL.)
c) Who is the winner here? I am guessing that a number of people possibly had their share count doubled? If not, does everybody lose? (I think the company gets more money.... but I feel that us little retail investors may not be as lucky.)

Q: Can you please tell me how much BAM owns of BIP and
BEP? I hold BAM in my unregistered accounts with the smaller dividend and BEP and BIP in my registered accounts, with the larger dividends. Am I better to focus on BAM only with the huge diversification, or should I also keep invested in BEP and BIP - not sure what to do. Finally, if I hold BAM:US, do I still get the Canadian dividend tax credit or do I need to hold BAM.A:CAN?

Q: If you had $25K to add to your TFSA today with consideration to having a portfolio of 5-10 stocks, some of which could be better short term (2-5yrs) vs longer term (10-25yrs). Mix of medium to lower risk what would you suggest and could you advise on ideal way to allocate %?

Q: Hi 5i Team - My question is both general and specific. When putting a value on a company the term multiple is often used. When talking about multiples could you explain what kinds of metrics this may involve, such as Price per Earnings, Price per Sales, Price per Cash Flow, etc. What multiples do you feel are the most useful in assessing the value of a company. Also what is the difference between cash flow and free cash flow.

The specific part of this question applies to SHOP. What are the most useful multiples to evaluate SHOP at today's price. Is it possible that it is now reasonably priced without the added bonus of expected growth (albeit slowing growth) Thank you.

Q: With a larger capital (3-5 millions) is it acceptable to manage only with ETF or is it clearly preferable to build a portfolio with individual stock ?

Q: Dear 5i
When the pandemic first started and the market dropped substantially , some days even7-10% in a single day i think it was because it was such a new and scary scenario that none of us had experienced before and thus created a lot more fear in the markets . Pandemics fortunately are not that common and creates a situation with a lot of unknowns when they do occur .
Wars though serious and scary as well have occured more often in history and though terrible, do not represent the same degree up unknown as a pandemic does . That being said , what would be your best GUESS as to what the market reaction would be with regards to a Russian invasion in the Ukraine .I suspect there would be a sharp reaction by the markets to the tune of a 2-3% downturn but certainly not the 7-10% downturn in a single day when the pandemic first hit .
I`m trying to remain level headed with regards the the Russian situation and would welcome your input . I know it is a guessing game but i feel your guess might be a more accurate guess than most of the rest of us .

Q: I hold the se three in my TFSA and each has a profit, though a lot less than it was.
Taking into consideration I am creeping up on 73 years old would it be wise to take my profits now or wait for them to rebound some.

Q: More of a comment really.

Some members of 5i are having conniptions about SHOP. Me too. Nobody likes to see their investment tank any more than I do. But I am diversified so am not getting too hurt by the action of SHOP. The only advice I can offer is that if you have an outsized position in any stock, not just SHOP, maybe you should rethink your strategy. If you are well diversified, just suck it up. This too will pass.

I am pleased with 5i but markets do go down from time. And this is just one of those times. The market gained so much in the last 6 or 8 months that us market watchers are not least bit surprised about our current downturn.

Q: someone asked whether transferring between his/her US tfsa to a cdn tfsa would be a disposition and contribution OR an internal transfer with no effect on contributions

i would check with your institution because if they are considered 2 separate tfsa's then this will be a redemption and thus you will not be able to put the $$ to the other tfsa till jan 1 2023

better check than be subject to onerous penalties from overcontributing in 2022
