Q: Looking to add exposure to consumer cyclical for an income portfolio, already hold NWC for consumer defensive in the retail space. Secure and growing dividend and low risk are key criteria, would you recommend one of these as a strong buy today and why? Or split the difference and buy both?

Q: This ETF interests me but I really have very little understanding of convertible bonds. Can this fund be considered a pure fixed income option? Having been burned twice on preferred shares I’m a bit leery on two fronts, investing in things that are neither equity nor fixed income, and investing in things I don’t understand. CVD has held up over the past 5 years while delivering a pretty good yield. What are the risks going forward and would you have any concerns about capital preservation?

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and 5i Team,

My wife and I need to reduce holdings in some stocks in our RRIFs to raise enough cash for the mandatory RRIF payments, which in our case is in late December.

Portfolio Analytics allows various ways to rank stocks, so I looked at the column "Total Portfolio Equity Weight" and ranked the stocks accordingly. For example, in my RRIF, my highest weight is with MG, and my wife's highest weight is with GSY. Not surprisingly, Portfolio Analytics also indicates that the Consumer Cyclical sector (MG), and the Financial Services sector (GSY) are overweight in our combined family portfolio (RRIFs, TFSAs, and non-registered accounts).

Is this a good way to determine the stocks that could be reduced to raise the required cash while at the same time putting sector weightings more in line with the recommendations of Portfolio Analytics?

I notice that many members ask questions about their holdings in various stocks, but 5i generally answers that weightings are personal.

Perhaps there's an alternative "rule of thumb" to use when going through this yearly process, and your valuable advice would, as always, be greatly valued.

Q: Portfolio Analytics calls for 6% in the Utilities sector, at present made up of 33% Aqn, 33%, Bep.un, 20%Npi, 14% Rnw. Is this diversified enough, a good selection or do you have other suggestions ?

Q: I need to reduce my technology holdings to balance to the Portfolio Analytics suggested weights. In tech I am biased towards growth and strong fundamentals. Which of the above listed would you sell (if any). Are there any companies in technology that you would consider "must own" names in such a portfolio?
Deduct as many points a you wish.
Many Thanks for you help

Q: In my portfolio 10 top equities (stocks or ETFs) comprise 30.8 % of the total. In your opinion is this an appropriate weighting? Or there is some rule to it? None of the stocks is over 5% in its weighting and one global EFT is slightly over 5 %.
Thank you as always for your advice and recommendations
