Q: Consensus is that a recession is coming, question is when. When the recession hits will that be a precursor to a bear market? If so will that be cyclical or secular?
You recently answered a question stating that recessions typically last less than a year. If so that would suggest it may be a precursor to a cyclical bear market but not a secular (multi year??) bear market.
Many pundits suggest we are in the late innings of a secular bull market, which started in 2009, I wonder whether this imminent recession would be the precursor to a pending secular bear market, thoughts?

CI Financial Corp. (CIX)

IGM Financial Inc. (IGM)

Fiera Capital Corporation Class A Subordinate Voting Shares (FSZ)
Q: In an answer earlier this year, you mentioned IGM as having "turned itself around"; did you mean (for example) changes in its business practices, or its break-out from its pre-pandemic trading range? In another answer, you spoke of CIX's "high leverage to capital markets"; how do CIX, FSZ, and IGM compare in this respect? You've characterized the sector as "fairly cheap, with not a whole lot of organic growth and lots of pressure on margins"; given this backdrop (and assuming the sector is even investable), is IGM's relative market cap (3X CIX, 10X FSZ) a material reason to prefer it over the other two? Or is CIX's depressed share price (and implied growth-potential) more decisive?

Q: Today I noticed that once again you recommend transferring Canadian Cos. that pay dividends in $US to the US side of our Trading accounts. I get the rationale but am wondering if it is worth the trouble of exceeding the $US investment limit of US$100k at which it is necessary to report US investments specifically to CRA ? Also it would be interesting to know why the CRA has set this arbitrary limit in the first place ? If you know why ?

Q: Good morning, Since growth, risk on etc. Is not in favor these days, do you think there is an opportunity cost in holding stocks like TOI, NVEI etc? Since it could be while before these type of stocks will be in favor again, thanks?
Q: Have done very well with this one. However the current consensus appears to be that this is a $12 stock, but it is continually dropping. Thoughts & thanks...
Q: Hi everybody,
I bought TIXT at around $37.00 so I am really under water. Should I take a loss and move on, or do you think this stock will recover? Thanks so much for your great advice.

Q: I am wondering about a rebound from the current level with XHY? Do you see it recovering from the loss this year and is it a good time to buy?
Q: Hi,
I've held MVP for about 2 years - I am just above break even now on this name. Do you think its worthwhile holding to see if this mini rally continues, or should I move on?
thanks as always for your opinion.

Q: Regarding XHY in the 5i Income Portfolio: Is XHY a hold or a buy at this time with a yield of about 4.90%? Is there any US withholding tax in an RRSP holding XHY?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: What do you think of this company now. Is it worth taking a small position for income and some growth.
Q: Do you see Canadian banks going much lower?
Q: My cost on TFII is around $90 and it looks like a recession is unavoidable at this point. Do you think it would make sense to sell this holding now with the idea of buying it back in 6 months at what should be support of around $75?
Q: How does one purchase Canadian real return government issue bonds and do you recommend them in this inflationary environment?
