Q: Rivian, which doesn't have any vehicles on the road yet, is seen as a potential competitor to Tesla. Can you provide an opinion on the Amazon backed EV company Rivian Automotive given their IPO next week and target of $60B valuation? Do you suggest that one take position in this company given they are an alternative to other EV companies?

Q: I WAS THINKING OF DOING THE FOLLOWING: ONE, WITHDRAW $20,000.00 FROM THE CANADIAN TAX FREE SAVING ACCOUNT THIS YEAR. TWO, NEXT YEAR TRANSFER $20,000.00 IN SECURITIES FROM US MARGIN ACCOUNT TO US TAX FREE SAVING ACCOUNT. WOULD THERE BE ANY CAPITAL GAINS TAXES? WHAT WOULD BE THE BENEFITS? ANY OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Q: Following on from a 19 Oct question, you rated dividend safety as: NPI, BEPC, CPX, RNW, AQN.

The payout ratio (12 month rolling, based on operating cash flow) was then shown as: BEPC 90%, AQN 170%, CPX 22%, NPI 20%, RNW 90%.

From this it seems like a 12 month rolling ratio is not a strong surrgate to dividend safety. I was a bit surprised but maybe 12 months is just too short.

Anyway, if such is the case, what metrics guided the views on dividend safety?

Thanks

Q: On Nov. 2 you answered Scott's question about U.S. estate taxes, saying that "Canadian stocks that are interlisted on other exchanges do not get captured in U.S. estate taxes". What about ADRs that trade on U.S. exchanges?

Q: Hi team,

Just wanted to ask how the tax works for capital gains following PENN buying out SCR. I got some cash and some shares of PENN.

Do I subtract my ACB from the cash to claim the capital gain and leave PENN shares out of this? Or do I have to consider the shares from PENN also as capital gain?

If the latter is true then we assume that I had sold all my SCR shares at a profit and have to pay taxes on total gain.

Thanks for clarifying this and a lot more everyday for us! :)
