Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hi folks. I am at a 47% loss in a registered account. It now is only a small percentage. Might it be a good idea to sell and circle back in about a year. What could be a better replacement?
Also January often tells us what kind of an investing year we will have as does the 2nd year of a presidency. What are your thoughts? It appears to be setting up for a tough year.
Thank you for your guidance as always

Q: What are your three highest conviction growth stocks from your Growth Portfolio at this time. This for a long term medium to higher risk for my TSFA. I already have all the stocks in the Balanced Portfolio.

Q: I'm going to make RSP contributions (for myself and husband) in kind this year from a margin/cash account. Looking for the best candidates. I'd have to report a CG on GSY (376%)or ATD.b (394%) or KXS (210%).
Alternatively, CG on PBH and MG are 18% and 65% respectively.

What stocks (in order of preference) would be good to transfer to RSP? in your wise opinion

Thanks!!!

Q: Looking to take advantage of the pullback in growth names. The names above are standing out to me as companies that have been beaten up and 'may' offer a good short term bounce as well as long term potential. Is this a buying opportunity for those listed above? Are there other names you would suggest and could you rank them please? I am a fairly aggressive long term investor with an otherwise diversified portfolio.

Q: Which consumer staple / defensive stocks would you recommend and why. (I already hold Alimentation-Couche Tard and will continue to hold this one.)

Also own Proctor & Gamble and OK to trade this one in an RRSP.
Really want something for 10 years and not to worry about ups and downs of market but happy to look at something of good value currently.
Please choose any of the above or another choice. Safety and sleep at night are priorities. Please Rank for me excluding ATD.

Thank you 5i.

Q: Hello! When examining my portfolio there are definitely areas that are working and areas that clearly are not like emerging markets, gold, and high growth tech. These are a much smaller portion of my portfolio. However, does it make sense to exit these areas if one can get out with no loss/minimal loss and reallocate the money to something like Sunlife, Enbridge, BCE, etc.. if one also needs dividend income. The reason for owning gold, emerging markets/international equity and high growth was for diversification but if primary reason for investing is income/stability I'm just wondering if it makes any sense at all to own these other clearly more risky areas. Thanks and I look forward to your expertise!

Q: The market has been less than enthusiastic about Dye and Durham since the takeover announced a month ago, which looks iffy now there is another rebellion among Canadian legal clients over fee jumps. If the takeover succeeds an article in the Jan.29 Globe projects debt will be 5X EBITDA up from 3X which could bury DND.

5i's assessment of David Berman's piece and the outlook for shares should the takeover be turned down by regulators in Australia, please.
