Q: I have too much cash and too little fixed income investments. We are facing inflation headwinds and the GIC rates I'm looking at ( sub four per cent) don't come close to this years forecast inflation. My pref shares are slumping. Can you suggest any inflation adjusted investments that are as safe or nearly as safe as GICs? In the US the treasury offers i-bonds in limited amounts. Do we have any equivalents here in our fine country? Thanks, al

Q: Inflation/recession fears are putting pressure on stocks. Rising interest rates, with even more increases to come, are putting pressure on bonds. Looking a few years out, what would be your stock/bond weighting today for a balanced portfolio with the hope of earning 4+% per year? And of your bond weighting, do you still prefer short vs long? Thanks.

Q: Hello 5I,
I recently bought $GSY on your recommendation as I thought it was a good fit for my portfolio. I then came across some comments it was a predatory lender.. I wondered is this accurate or just a disgruntled ex-employee or customer? I know they deal with less qualified borrowers and get paid more for that risk but is it not a necessary service that is policed by the government?
Thanks

Q: I noticed the question about "phantom" distributions. I was very surprised to see that the capital gains distributions at the end of the year which are rolled back into NAV show up as taxable but without the Return of Capital adjustment that is needed. So a RoC distribution that requires the ACB to be decreased is shown on T3s but when a phantom RoC distribution that requires the ACB to be increased to the benefit of unit holders is not shown on the T3. How many people are going to pay twice the amount of tax as they should on these distributions?
