Q: I am wondering about the NAV for DIR.un as the company reported an updated value of $16.64 last week with its Q2. How often does a REIT update its own numbers for this as a rule? I note it trades at a 25% discount to this number now whereas a year ago it traded at a premium to NAV.

What comparable NAV numbers would SMU.un and GRT.un have and of the 3 is DIR.un still your favourite. Lastly please rank by risk.

Q: MPW pays a dividend of some 7%. I do hold a small position and am wondering if I should maintain or exit. I like the yield but in the past I have not had capital appreciation success with "high yield" stocks and usually ended with a net loss. I don't see any reason to exit except the high yield is telling me the market knows something I do not. Am I "over-reacting" ? Thanks John

Q: Hi,
I just received notice from RBC that WSP has issued a Treasury Offering of Common Shares, priced at 171.75 Cdn, for a total of $400,013,000. It appears to be for the following:

On June 1, 2022, the Corporation announced that it had entered into a definitive share purchase agreement for the acquisition of the Environment & Infrastructure consulting business of John Wood Group plc (“Wood”) (the “Wood Acquisition”). The Wood Acquisition is expected to be completed in the second half of 2022 and is subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions, including anti-trust and regulatory conditions.

I'm not familiar with this company and wonder what effect it will have on WSP's operations going forward. Any thoughts you can offer would be most appreciated! It appears there would be a hold on shares purchased for a 4 months' plus one day period. I already have shares at a 3.5% weighting and am wondering is this is an opportunity to add, or would it be best to stand aside? would you consider weightings of 5, or even 8% in WSP when taking into account this offer and the recent infrastructure bill in the US?

Thanks for all your hard work!

Q: My daughter opened her first TFSA a few years ago. She is planning on using it to save for retirement, so has a very long time horizon. She has 25% in ZSP (S&P 500 ETF) and 15% in XIT (Canadian technology ETF). Together we chose some fun stocks to complete her portfolio. We are happy with most of our picks – Disney (DIS), Crowdstrike (CRWD), Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), Snowflake (SNOW) and CN Rail (CN). But we are wondering about four – Twilio (TWLO), Etsy (ESTY), Paypal (PYPL) and Upstart (UPST). All have dropped since she bought, but what do you think of the longer term potential of these? Would you swap any out? If so, for what?

Thanks,
Kim

Q: Good afternoon,

I'd like to add a position (or 2) in each of the following sectors: REIT (TCN or GRT.UN or CAR.UN or a better idea), energy (CNQ or SU or a better idea) and industrial (already own WSP, TFII, XYL, TT and could add to one of these or consider a better idea). I could also use a utility suggestion (either add to FTS or AQN or add BEP.UN). And, I'm always looking for an opportunity to add BAM.A to my portfolio. In what order would you add or take new positions given the current environment being favourable to a given sector and/or a good entry point for a particular stock.

Your service is always greatly appreciated, thank you,

Lisa

Q: Hi, I am looking for quality US stocks that do not give out a dividend like BRK.B and GOOG and are unlikely to start issuing dividends in the next years. Can you suggest 4-5 other names?

Q: Hi,

I have a position in Lulu (slightly underwater) and ATZ (slight gain), but wondering if - all else equal - I should sell some Lulu and make ATZ a bigger allocation.

Can you compare them in terms of valuation, growth prospects, and any other general comments?

Also, how do you think the sector and Lulu/ATZ will do in a period of economic weakness and high inflation? My thoughts are that it is discretionary spending so that's not ideal, but also they should be able to pass on some inflation to the end user.

Some anecdotal thoughts - my good friend is a model and just started working for ATZ's new men's line. I asked him what he thought of the men's clothing he said it was really good, stylish, and thinks it will sell well. Take that with a grain of salt, but he's extremely fashionable and if he likes it that's definitely a good sign.

Thanks!

Q: I have held NWH for several years at about a 2% position, and am considering adding another 1-1.5%. While I have been pleased with the performance/dividends over the years, I am also looking at MPW, which would add some $US, pays a better dividend, is larger and is more US-oriented. Could you compare the two stocks in terms of debt, P/NAV, dividend sustainability, payout, etc, and comment on whether you think they would complement each other to some degree (or is it more of the same). Buy MPW or more NWH, or is the position getting a little large in a specialized area?
Thank-you
