Q: I heard a rumour about the Federal government's threat to REIT flow-through taxation status. Is this something that is actively under consideration? Remnants of the Halloween Income Trust debacle come to mind

Q: Hello,

I am looking at buying some corporate bonds for the fixed income portion of my portfolio.

Via my discount brokerage account, I see annual yield between 3% and 4.5% for terms between 3 and 4 years for bonds issued by big banks or Lifeco. If I hold to maturity, am I correct my annual return will be the annual yield?

Also, anything to watch for with these securities? To make my life easier, I was planning on buying a few larger positions to balance my portfolio (as opposed to the typical 7% max stock position for the equiy portion of the portfolio).

Thank you for your help.

Q: On April 5th I asked a question about STEP Energy, and bought it after your answer - it has been the main green streak in my portfolio, and I now have a double. It has 7 analyst buys on the RBC Direct trading site - do you think these are up to date? Do you know what the consensus has on it for a projected stock price? Do you think it still has "legs"? Thanks!

Q: Can I please get your outlook on the energy sector, and the holdings above- how would you rank them for a 1 year hold, would the ranking change for a 5 year hold?
There is the view that energy will come back to represent a larger % of the index again.

Q: Hi , Peter & Team:

I'm in the process of selling some of the losers to offset the capital gain. Which of the above Co. may not rebound as well, that is the most likely to sell now, to the ones least likely to sell ( worth holding).
Take as many credit as you see fit. Thank you for all the great service and advice you have given through the year.

Q: 2 weeks ago Jamie Dimon, chairman of JP Morgan commented that he was expecting a challenging environment ahead. Then last week he revised his outlook to Hurricane conditions which JP Morgan is preparing for, partly to do with current conditions and the commencement of deleveraging. Pretty strong words from such a prominent figure. Any thoughts/comments/advise from you guys?
