Q: We owned Onex since 2006, we are from $20 to$ 64. Not that great given the meagre dividend. It is about 1% of total portfolio. we have some newly realized cash and wonder if we should augment the position to 3% given the low valuation now.
could you suggest other well priced private equity or conglomerate, (Claivest?) We are looking at the long term.
Thank you.

Q: Hi, Any comments/change about our Energy Sector Holdings strategy of 7.5-10% weighting, in light of Oil prices tumbling below US$100 today. Oil and Gas equities are taking a big hit and now trading back at the most recent lows made a few weeks ago when oil price dropped to $104. Do you think, sector could see more pressure in coming weeks/months, with fear of recession growing ? Is any action warranted ?Thank You

Q: As it appears to me we are probably headed toward some level of recession it seems likely that an economic slowdown will be negative for energy stocks such as TOU. First of all do you agree with me that a recession is possible, maybe probable, and secondly if you do do you agree the it may be timely to unload stocks such as TOU or are you of the opinion that energy prices will remain high in view of world wide need for energy, Russia etc

Q: Good morning. The thought crossed my mind a couple weeks ago that we could be in for a tough winter and thought of putting in a wood burning stove to offset natural gas usage in my home. With nat gas prices hitting the headlines with a 700% price increase.
What do you see for consumers of same across North America this heating season? Are regional shortages a possibility? I know this is a but unusual as a 5i question but your input would be appreciated. If you were to invest in nat gas stocks, or etf's where would you put your money, or has that horse left the trading barn already ? Thanks David. Please take as many questions as necessary.

Q: I hope the 5i team and readers enjoyed a nice holiday weekend. Looking ahead to the second half of the year, what do you think we’re in for with the markets? I realize prognostications are hard to make (maybe I should say they are easy to make but hard to get right!). I get nervous because I keep seeing more doom and gloom forecasts which reference the tightening of fiscal policy in the US and ongoing inflation. I would appreciate hearing your general comments at this time. Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i Team - Could you provide a couple (or more) ETF's related to the NASDAQ, with a long term horizon in mind. In particular are there any that reinvest their dividends rather than distribute them to their investors. Also what are the tax implications of reinvesting rather than distributing. Is there an ETF that covers all the listings on the the NASDAQ itself. Thanks.

Q: Hi Everyone at 5i!! I was considering adding the following to my dividend/growth retirement portfolio: APD, AOS, and GPL. I would value your thoughts on the suitability of these stocks for such a portfolio and the stability of these stocks in a recession. Cheers, Tamara

Q: Hello, happy Canada to all. Currently building a moderate portfolio with the stocks above, all full positions except WSP, open to also taking on some more risk and buying into the negativity. Long runway of 5-10+ years. Am looking for 3 new options that would help achieve an overall 2.5-3% dividend yield (2 CAN and 1 US). And 3 growth options (2 CAN and 1 US). Please omit GSY, ENB, MG, TOI, and GOOG (I know, sorry) as these are also held in a separate account. Thank you for all that you do!

Q: Perhaps a bit out of your ballpark, but related to thoughts about bond markets.

I am currently on a floating mortgage which was very attractive a couple of years ago. That is going up, of course, but locking in would be about 2-3% higher.

You can't predict the future, but what do you see as the wise choice here? Stick with the floating rate or bite the bullet and lock in for the next 3-4 years?

Q: Can you suggest some pick and shovel ways of investing in the theme that a dramatic increase in atomic energy production is the only reasonable way to produce the electric power necessary to replace fossil fuels? i.e. producers or suppliers to producers other than uranium miners.
The theory is that wind and solar both have environmental negatives as well is seasonal and 24 hour availability issues that suggest there are limits to their contribution.
Secondly how, valid do you think the premise is?
Thanks, Hugh

Q: Good Morning,

I have stayed away from Oil and Gas during the current resurgence having been been burned badly in the past.

The sector, however, has become very hard to ignore.

What would be your top 2 - 3 picks for a conservative retired income investor?

Thanks very much.
