Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am significantly under water in a non-registered account with a holding in NXT, which I bought some months ago. What is your current outlook for the company and the share price going forward? Time to realize the loss and move on? If so, what are some of your current favorite ideas? I have a good number of the companies mentioned by you folks in the Q &A, so 3 or 4 names to choose from would be a help.

Many thanks for your excellent service

Q: Your return on the balance portfolio is around 14% per year since inception. I am updating my own personal financial model, and is this a reasonable return to use? I presume this number includes yearly dividends. It does seem a little high given it is in a low interest rate period but that may be irrelevant.

Q: Building on Jeremy's suggestion to Kim's question today on drawdown of RRSP and other retirement holdings, here are a few free calculators I have found helpful:

https://www.calculator.net/retirement-calculator.html

And,

https://www.cchwebsites.com/content/calculators/CARetirementPlan.html

The latter is more flexible. Also books by actuary Frederick Vettese are very good, and there is a free site for one to calculate CPP payouts if you are inclined to drawdown early or defer:

Q: Admittedly, I am not a patient investor. I am disenchanted with Boyd and have to believe that either or all of the other equities mentioned above (which I am not fully invested in) should be a better investment for the medium/long term. Could you please comment on this and suggest the equities, in order of growth expectation, I could replace Boyd with.
Thanks,

Q: In my RRIF I hold the above 5 stocks in the "financial" sector:

1) What impact, positive or negative will interest rate reduction have on each of the stocks?
2) Would you please rate the 5 for total return possibility over the next 12-18 months, and
3) They represent about a 25% of the RRIF - would you be comfortable with this level of allocation n the current environment?

Thanks,
Terry

Q: Hi 5i Team, I Have two questions following today's significant deal between BCE and Rogers.

1- Market reaction was a bit negative on Rogers stock following the deal with BCE, What would be the trigger point to take a position in Rogers following that deal should Rogers stock keep falling.

2 Following that deal between these two giants, which company would you consider the best deal BCE or RCI.B at current levels?

Thx for your opinion.

Michel
