Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Can you help describe for us how a sitting CEO, also be involved with buying that company? Doesn't the CEO have privileged information that most other shareholders don't and also isn't there a conflict of interest to float a potential offer as it can artificially manipulate the short term stock price? It's very confusing to me that he can do this without undue influence.

Q: In Amaya’s press release this morning they stated that they will not be providing 2016 guidance “in view of the potential offer that may be forthcoming from Mr. Baazov”. I cannot make sense of this or understand why this would be a reason to withhold future guidance. Surely the due diligence that any potential acquirer would undertake will far outweigh any “guidance” provided to shareholders. It sounds to me like an excuse to not disclose what would otherwise be underwhelming future guidance. Could this be why it is trading significantly lower this morning? How would common shareholders like me even begin to evaluate the merits of any bid to take the company private if they won’t even provide guidance? Do you see anything “fishy” with this move?

Q: Hello,

Another weekly market report letter I received says "do not let little losses turn into big losses" (cut your losses after 10%). DIRT and ENTERTAIN I've had for quite some time and are down 35%-40%. Since you know these stocks well, if it took them 8 or 9 months to fall that far, will they recover in 8 or 9 months? One month ago, I took a position in TNC, and it is down over 10%. Should I hit the sell button? You know that stock better than I do. In your email, you recommended some plays in AYA, CUS, and I believe SPB. I am thinking of trying to recover some of my money with one of these email recommendations. Out of the three, which one do you think going long on will be the least risky?

Thanks,
Dennis

Q: I currently own 1250 shares of AYA. I'm down approx 30% from my purchase price.

I feel with what is going on with AYA and all of the recent announcements there is an upside bias to the stock.

If I'm correct and the bias is positive I would like to employ an option strategy on this to try and make some money back on my paper loss.

What option strategy would you employ in this type of situation without perhaps selling a call and cutting off your upside potential?

Thanks

Sheldon

Q: For those who don't read the forums, here is some interesting information on New York gambling legislation.
http://www.onlinepokerreport.com/19482/new-york-online-poker-bill-passes-vote/

Do you think this will have an effect on the recent buyout offer price? Or is it too early in the process of passing the legislation? 9-0 vote appears promising! TIA

Q: I could understand how a failed privatization would be a risk to Amaya's SP sending it back to under 15 where it was last Friday when the last 5 minutes of trading saw a huge lift on tremendous volume. What to read into this? Word was out and over the weekend Mr. Baazov figured it's happening again, like it did with Poker Stars, loose lips are blabbing and we'd better get the potential offer out there before the regulator catches wind (again). So we'll go with a semi-offer that could have used another 2 weeks to put in place and even if it doesn't fly a 20% temporary bump is nice for a 10%+ shareowner. Even if the longer term is rosy aren't there too many cockroaches appearing now and not being swatted?

Q: Hello team,

I understand that it is really tough out there and people are just selling everything they can for they may not be able to withstand the losses otherwise. I have been watching AYA going from 6$ to almost 40$ in the good times and now watching it reaching back to 13$. I added more when it came down to $20 and was still okay for it to fall down to $15....but I have to admit that it is testing my patience at $13. I guess I am only asking for some reassuring words that AYA will not go further down from here. Why such a huge drop? Isn't this the same company when it was 3 times higher? I cannot care less for the market swings and I will be hanging there in the mean time. But would I see AYA back to its glory or would it be even lower than what it is now 5 years from now? Is it just the debt or is it the US$? Would you not think that CEO has another major acquisition in mind for he did not say anything about where the expected future guidance was based on? (I don't have any regrets for not selling AYA at its highs for I want to believe that having great companies for a very long time is the only insurance one might have in the stock market....I hope I am not mistaken!) Thank you for holding our hands all along!

Q: Amaya's recent press release about 2015 full-year financial guidance finally presented some good news for investors for its upcoming results however my concern is regarding future guidance.

The press release announced the guidance for 2015 was based on an FX rate of CAD1.26 = USD1.00. With FX hovering around 1.40 now, would you expect 2016 future guidance to be lowered as a result, and where do you see the future valuation? We all know what happened when AYA announced Q3 earnings (and future guidance) with FX being a drag.
