Q: Inverted yield curve(US 3mo higher than 10yr interest rate).2 great views by Ryan on BNN on 3/29 & Peter in The Van Sun,3/30. My observations.1)As at 8pm pst 3/31 10yr is higher than 3m (2.439 vs 2.408) 2)A popular yield curve is 2yr & 10yr(2.294 is lower than 2.439).3)This will help the big 6 can banks as pointed out by 5I as they borrow short & lend long(better interest margins.Ryannyou were great on BNN Thanks for u usual great services & views

Q: Hello 5i,
Great job on the P.A.!! I found it extremely quick and easy to enter my data and will go through the resulting report soon.
One question I have, however, is: can I (or how do I) add our investment in our daughter-in-law's company? It is a private company and it represents slightly over 3% of our total PF. The easiest would be to add the cash value, but then I wouldn't want it categorized as Cash. One of your previous answers alluded to being able to add holdings that fall outside the box, but there were no specifics.
Also, I can't remember if you have a FAQ on the P.A. page or not, but it if not, it might help a bit.
Again, congratulations on a great job!!! Everyone at 5i should feel very proud indeed!!
Cheers,
Mike

Q: Hello and congratulations on the new portfolio analytics roll out. I have started to enter my data. I notice the system allows Unregistered, RESP, RIFF, RRSP and TFSA. I have a LIRA should I enter this with my other RRSP holdings? I am also wondering about my wife's accounts. Should I lump them in with my holdings or is there a way to separate them? Thanks as always

Q: Hi Peter, on the 5iResearch’s company tab, for each company listed there are approximately 35 financial numbers & ratios describing the company’s financial situation. Could you please suggest the most important financial figures or ratios listed for the company that an investor with a limited understanding of financial statements could look at in order to get a feel for the company’s present financial health. Thanks … Cal

Q: Although securities are " held in segregation ", what specifically ensures that beneficial shareholders (non-registered ) are protected from a legal( registered) holder's liquidity issue ? My question relates to the possibility, not the probability of a liquidity issue . The question relates to large portfolios which are well beyond the scope of the CIPF protection . As an aside , I would note that , contrary to conventional wisdom , Canadian banks , although much stronger than many others around the world, are not really " well capitalized " . They meet and exceed very weak regulatory standards and regularly pass related stress tests . Over leveraging produces very good returns on too little capital . An informed analysis of all of our major banks balance sheets should raise the issue of possible risk associated with weak regulatory standards regarding capitalization .
