Q: Currently down significantly on these names, especially SHOP

Please confirm whether all are “keep-able” in a long-term (10yrs+) balanced portfolio.

Would you add to any at current valuations, and which one(s)?
Thank you!

Q: For an RESP with withdrawals starting this year, ending likely 10 to 11 years out for youngest child:
Largest holding is the ETF VUN (US) at 43% followed by BN and AC at around 12% each, then TOI, DOO , ATZ, SU, BAM in the 3-10% range each. Not included is the unfortunate loss of about 8% of the RESP due to failure of XBC.
So the focus remains on growth for the next 4-5 years to keep withdrawals mostly funded by growth.
Thoughts on keeping VUN as is? What about a higher-yielding ZWB in lieu of the individual stocks? Any concerns / risks that you know of for the stocks listed or maybe can offer some lower-risk substitutions?

Big thank you!

Q: Can you clarify the business models of the above for me. I am worried about the prospect of commercial real estate defaults affecting the share prices of the above. I own both.
As I understand it, BN actually owns commercial real estate that could potentially default, whereas BAM doesn’t. Can you confirm this? In the case of BAM, they simply take institutional investor money and invest it for them, in many different asset classes, of which commercial real estate is perhaps 5-15% roughly? And by investing institutional money in this class, they earn fees. So defaults in commercial real estate would probably only somewhat indirectly affect BAM because they might still get institutional investors wanting to allocate money to the class even if prices were low, and they therefore would still earn fees on this? Perhaps BAM would (eventually) earn less ‘carry’ on the commercial real estate investments, down the road in the case of some kind of commercial real estate decline? Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i,

Currently I have full positions in BN and BAM. With a goal of increasing income would you add a new position in BIPC or BEPC?

Thank you!

Q: If one has exposure to renewables through a large position in Brookfield Corporation (owner of 25% of BEP) and Fortis, do you think it makes sense to hold onto a small position in Northland Power? (which has showed promise over the years but has unperformed the market significantly the past 18 months)

Q: There has been some action lately in some of your usual top picks like GSY, BN, NVEI, etc. I'm planning to deploy some cash soon when I see a decent red day. With all the recent changes, what are your top 3 highest conviction names in order, now that you would deploy money to? Thx

Q: Good afternoon,

Could you please contrast BN and BAM with respect to exposure and sensitivity to the commercial real estate market. If one was looking to underweight commercial real estate, which would be your choice (or not at all)?

Thank you

Q: Wow, wild ride lately. I'm looking for some solid companies to tame things down in my portfolio. I would greatly appreciate it if you could recommend some companies that fit the following requirements:
1. Are reasonably valued.
2. Have a solid business model that have protective moats that shied them from competitive threats.
3. Generate strong cashflow and earnings even in a higher interest rate environment.
I'm interested in both Canadian and American companies. Thanks, as always for your support.

Q: Hi 5I team,

I manage a very small RRSP for my daughter and was hoping that you could give me 2 Canadian and 2 US stocks that I could add to her portfolio.
I would appreciate an entry point for them and also your reasons for the selection.

Thanks,
Joe

Q: Hello, I received a few hundred shares of BAM from the BAM.A spin off. Between BAM and BN which one offers the better return?
Are KXS and ENGH keepers? Do they offer any real advantages over their competitors ?
How about LSPD? As I recall LSPD offered point of sale to restaurants and small businesses. Since the re-opening, LSPD has not gained market share. what is the problem with he company?

I appreciate your thoughts!
Thanks
