Q: Is BCE a buying opportunity at the current price and dividend yield over 6.5%. I assume the dividend is secure?

Q: Any concerns with BCE’s payout ratio being over 100%? TD’s analyst downgraded the stock last week as he noted that the Street has overlooked BCE’s cash costs related to the payment and servicing of capital losses. As a result, they lowered the FCF estimate by $550M which dramatically increases the payout ratio for 2023E to 148%, versus 119% previously. They note they see no near- to medium-term prospect for the payout ratio to get below 100% if BCE keeps raising the dividend 5% per year.
Q: I believe you have recently switched from Telus to BCE as favourite telco, however does the asset investment in TV concern you? With the numbers of people fleeing cablevision in favour of streaming will BCE be caught in a double whammy, losing on owning TV stations and on cablevision subscribers? Will this not impact revenue streams and potentially the dividend?
Q: Lately,I note that U prefer BCE over T(was a previous favourite in theTel comm sector).Tixt is a current drag on T. So is BCE is the number one in the sector. In light of the high interest rate,is it timely to buy Bce? Txs for U usual great services & views

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. I have funds available over time to invest in / top-up some of my positions to meet long term asset allocation targets. I plan on continuing to invest these funds over a number of months...as I have been over the past 8 months.
The question is = in what order do I buy the following = XST, XIT (several BNN-ers say to avoid adding to technology at this point), BCE, BNS, LIFE, ZUT.
One method is to wait for these securities to hit my price targets (based on hitting a combination of fundamental and technical targets (a little bit is kind of bottom-feeding).
A 2nd method is looking at setting the order of buying, based on where one thinks each security is relative to their historic value.
Ignore asset allocation...these are smaller amounts and the AA is reasonably good right now.
My suggested order, subject to where each security's price is at (please shoot holes in my plan):
Sept = BNS,
Oct = XST-#1 (in 2 tranches-spread out),
Nov = ZUT-#1 (ditto),
Dec = XIT-#1 (ditto),
Jan = XST-#2,
Feb = ZUT-#2,
Mar = XIT-#2,
As each hits their price target (minor adds) = BCE, LIFE.
Please state your order and why.
Thanks...much appreciated...Steve

Q: Dear 5i team.
Does it make sense to just buy equal amounts of the big three in Canada, or is there an ETF that provides good exposure to these, along with other adjacent companies?Thanks for your help.

Q: I bought BCE and ENB at the wrong time and down around 13% on each. I had bought them as what I thought were "safe-ish" holdings that pay a nice dividend while I wait for other opportunities. Dumb move in hindsight.
Should I bite the bullet and move on or do you see a rebound in the next few months?
They are in a margin account so I would benefit from the tax loss if I sell.
Thanks

Q: Peter; What could be the downside to buying BCE when it yields 7% ? Do you ever recall it being this high? Thanks.

Q: For a retired investor seeking stable dividends and some growth, how would you rank these companies if one had $100,000 to invest? Are there other companies you would recommend and how would they fit into the rankings?. Current portfolio is quite well diversified, so sector is not an issue. Thank you, Ian

Q: I did reorganize all my portfolio for a dividend focused portfolio , and already did sell most of the stocks for selected ETFs ,except the 12 stocks mentionned.I wish to only keep 12 "financially safe stocks" on long term + at low risk of dividend cut.If those 12 stocks do not all match this objective,wich ones could be sold and then replaced by what individual stock suggested ? regards,JY

Q: I sold TRP today at basically a break even price because I do not want to wait out the final outcome of their recent split up plan and to see how their debt is allocated etc. I was in the stock for long term income given I am recently retired. It will be hard to find an equivalent yield, given capital preservation is a prime objective along with the income. TRP was held in a non registered account for tax advantaged dividend income.
With long term capital preservation a goal along with income generation, and that I hold all of the above listed companies already in appropriate proportions and don't wish to add to them or their sectors (no more utilities, financials or telecoms) what other Canadian blue chip dividend companies would you consider for long term hold with decent dividends for income? I also already have enough allocated to bonds, GIC's and cash accounts so I'm not considering these assets either.
Manageable debt levels and ability to maintain dividend growth, hopefully at the rate of inflation or higher is the main criteria I would hope to have in replacing TRP for the long haul. Thank you for your valued insight in giving me suggestions to look at.

Q: Hello Peter,
I am thinking of increasing my weights to more than 5 percent in fts, bce, and telus. My focus is really income with small capital appreciation looking at 5 year hold. At this point, it seems fts will give me better appreciation but bce and telus have nice dividends. Please comment. thanks

Q: I'm concerned by the decline in Telus over the past few months. BCE is also in decline and Rogers is not great either. What is happening here and should I just stick with Telus or switch to something else?
Q: I have a 5% holding of TRP in my income orientated non registered account , now at a 10% loss. I have a tendency to hold on to declining stocks for too long. Spin outs complicate my fairly
concentrated portfolio used to fund my retirement. What do you expect share price reaction to be over the period until spin out ? Any ideas on replacement ? I want to stay away from energy infrastructure and already own BEPC.
Thanks. Derek

Q: Hello Peter,
Is Laurentian Bank worth holding at the current price as i have sold half and hoping for higher amount to 50s? What is your view on Ivanhoe Electric? Do you think the telecom space in Canada is behaving like the US with stocks not doing well other than the dividend? Thanks very much
