Q: The TSX has reached an all time high this month. Based on current prices, which 5 Canadian Stocks are your top choices for new money and your reasons for choosing those stocks.

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor with a well diversified portfolio (in my opinion anyway). My proxy for the technology sector is XIT and it has performed very well over the long time period I have held it. I like using your charting ability to compare XIT to QQQ or other related tech companies or ETFs....great feature!


Question #1 = With all of the "AI" interest right now, I wonder how much exposure does XIT have to the AI theme? Which of the embedded companies within XIT have AI exposure?

Question # 2 = Is there is an ETF that focuses on AI-related companies or is there an ETF that focuses on AI-generated stock picks (in any sector) and what your thoughts are?

Q: It is said that AI will decrease the need for software or processes provided by software technology companies. Some fund managers have said that they have reduced their software holdings. Of the companies listed, are any more "immune" to the effects of AI?

Q: My son (23) has 9000$ to invest in his first TFSA (he already has a FHSA account that is maxed out). He wants to open a TFSA investing account. Do you have a recommendation for how he breaks up the 9000.00 (ie. 3 stocks)? Are there any sectors that he should focus on at first? Do any particular stocks jump out at you as suitable for this kind or foray into the market?

Q: Sold TIXT in tfsa (11 equities) as do not want to hold Telus in this growth leaning account as I already have some in cash account oriented mostly towards dividend paying growth equities. So looking at which of my “better” remaining tfsa holdings to add to for next 18 to 24 months: lmn, tvk,dsg, drx or eqb or do I consider something new like png, vhi or zdc? I am long retired and survive on a DB pension.

Q: Could you comment on the Q2 results. Would you move to a full position based on results?

Q: Descartes just reported Q2 earnings. They have made 85 cents (US) for the 1st half of the year. Given that earnings are creeping up, maybe they make $1.75 or $1.80 this year. That would be about $2.40, $2.45 Cdn, something like that. The stock price is about 55 times that, giving it a very high p/e. I know it has always had a very high p/e. Earnings growth for the 1st half is only about 6%. I know DSG is a highly regarded business, they are pretty consistent, etc. but I am finding it hard to see the value of holding this stock with such sluggish growth compared to the very high p/e ratio. Seems it would be tough to see much price appreciation when the p/e is already so high and the growth is minimal. Is there reason to think the growth might be high enough in the next 2 -3 years to justify not only the current stock price, but a significantly higher price? I'm finding it difficult to justify continuing to hold a stock with a PEG ratio of about 9.

Q: What would your top ~5 recommendations be to build an RESP with an 10-15 year horizon.
Had to sell all positions to live the account and have a good pile of free cash currently to redeploy. Not dissatisfied with prior holdings but creates a moment to consider best options currently

Q: I have a total of 27% in technology and wonder if best to decrease this as I do not have consumer staples or consumer cyclical stocks. I am thinking of selling of GIB.A and CLBT. Would you sell these 2 stocks to bring the weight down or best to just trim some off the stocks listed. This is for a RRSP and I am more growth oriented.

Q: Hi, similar to a previous question, I've held DSG for awhile at about 4% of my portfolio and have come out a bit ahead. Would YOU think it might be a good time to sell half and begin a position into KXS? Or continue to hold DSG and initiate a position into KXS more slowly?

Q: I noticed you prefer KSX over DSG recently, and I’m wondering why. Or is GSY the better choice of the three? I have held all three for a few years and due to timing issues I have a much higher gain on DSG and GSY. I know past performance does not guarantee future results, but can’t get over my negative bias towards KSX. Also I have too many different stocks and know I should concentrate more. (I.e. 20 vs 30+)

Q: My tech component of my portfolio is 43% and want to rebalance my portfolio so tech is about 33%. In tech CSU is 33% NVDA 20% Shop 15% Rest are about 6% to 8%. Is there 1 or 2 I should sell due to overlap? What should I do?
Also is there an argument that shopify fits into the consumer discretionary space?
Also am I missing a tech name?

Q: I try to keep 5i’s guidance on when to sell a stock in the back of my mind whenever I am looking at my holdings. Do you feel either of these two meet enough of the criteria to warrant selling? For instance I see commentary that (future) competitive landscape for NTR may have shifted materially with massive new supply entering the market? And notwithstanding recent DSG comments, it feels like something has changed? I appreciate your thoughts.

Q: Hi There,
I prefer not to buy DLR to convert from CAD to USD because of high MER and I don't mind holding the security for awhile before selling in my USD account. Can you suggest an alternative which is a dual listed CAD stock as a possible DLR replacement that has these characteristics; good trading volume, low bid/ask spread, low volatility, no dividend etc.

Q: What are your top highest conviction stocks right now for compound growth over next five years?

Q: Hi, is it ever wrong to own a company and its proxy? For example, KXS and DSG. Is it a zero sum game where owning both will cancel out gains? Or can they grow together? Is it advised to just pick the one you have the most conviction in, or perhaps a half position for both (in general)?
