Q: I would like to buy one of the above companies. DSG's share price is expected to go up nicely in the next year, but it does not appear to have the push the other two have. What would you recommend?

Q: Hey guys,

Nice dip on DSG which leads me to my question after reading that it was removed from the portfolio. I wrote awhile back about it being a top pick and asking what the expected catalysts were. I understand that since then we have seen an acquisition which was among the reasons for expected increases. My question then is two fold

1. In light of the removal from the portfolio, would you guys walk back the inclusion as a BNN top pick or would you make that pick again today?

2. Would you have expected the recent acquisition to create a leg up if it had not fallen in the midst of a grumpy market? Did that acquisition make it more or less appealing?

Q: I am trying to trim my portfolio from 38 equity holdings down to about 30. Largest # of holdings is in the Tech Sector which is 19% of my total portfolio. They are:
SYZ, OTEX, ENGH, DSG (held in my 'balanced' RRSP)
ABT, ET (held in my RIF for income)
ITC,PHO,SHOP (held in my TFSA for growth)

All are between 2% and 4% of my total portfolio with the exception of ET at 1.7% and ITC @ 0.7%

I would also like to purchase KXS !! I am turning myself into knots trying to decide what I should drop in order to buy it (if you think it would be beneficial ?) . Plus what other stocks could I sell/increase/purchase in order to trim the # of holdings and still have a robust tech portfolio.
Any suggestions would be appreciated... Thank goodness you are there as an experienced and wise sounding board !!

Q: I saw Ryan's pick of Descartes on BNN and wonder if you can comment on what catalysts you see for this to go a leg up? My admittedly basic technical analysis doesn't suggest any upward movement so I assume this is underpriced based on fundamentals. My question then is when do you expect it to move and what factors will cause the stock to move upwards?

Q: Greetings 5i team:
I own CGI Group in a non-registered account. Without regard to tax implications or trading costs, just looking at the fundamentals and expectations for each company, would you make a switch to either Open Text or Descartes assuming a 3 year or greater time frame?

Thanks as always for your analysis.

Q: You've liked Descartes in the past and have said it's a good company, but have tended to prefer other tech stocks such as Open Text, primarily because of the valuation of Descartes I believe. I'm wondering what has changed in the last month that you've started to make it as a top pick. Is it simply the 10% approx. pullback after last quarter? Are there any other changes that have occurred that have impacted this decision also? Thanks for your comments.

Q: Hi Team,
I'm looking to add few names to my growth fund. I already own many of your suggestions. How do you feel about DSG, BDT, CJT and CAE? From a growth perspective for 2 to 3 years, do you like them? Would you invest here? How would you rank them?
Thanks,
Dennis

Q: Hello 5i,
From time to time a well performing company misses on earnings estimates in a quarter but it does not necessarily mean that its longer term good performance and potential growth will slow.
What was the cause of the poor earnings per share result. Was the reasons for this miss merely a temporary hiccup or perhaps a longer term issue. What conclusion should one draw from this quarter's results? Are the views about this company change from your September report? Is the growth by acquisition theme and potential remain intact. What can we expect to see from the company in the next 6 and 12 months. Should I continue to hold or sell at this time.

Thanks for your excellent insights.
Joseph

Q: Hi team,

This question is probably going to highlight my ignorance in this area only, but I am going to ask it any: Would it make sense for CSU to take over DSG in a mega deal? Would there be any synergies from a friendly acquisition? If yes, why CSU is not interested in DSG? or similar large Canadian software companies?
I have both and not sure if there are any advantages in keeping both.
Your feedback and insight is much appreciated.
