Q: I currently own CLS and thinking of selling this stock and buying SYZ or OTEX or would it be best to buy both? I currently already have KXS and PHO. These are the only 2 tech stocks that I will own after selling CLS. My total weight is only 5%.

Thanks

Q: About a month ago, I sold these equities, with the only reason being to take a tax loss against gains I took earlier in the year. This has left me with some liquidity. What do you recommend regarding re-purchasing these companies, or waiting for a more stable or upward momentum. Generally, my portfolio follows your balanced equity portfolio.

Q: Hi Peter,
Please deduct as many credits as you see fit. I have some losers (some big) as per below:

Margin account
CLIQ down 52%
PHO down 37%
MX down 20%
TFII down 23%
ECN down 13%
NFI down 11%

TFSA
GUD down 17%
CLS down 20%
DOL down 38%
TSGI down 47%

RRSP
DOO down 43%
COV down 26%

Here are my questions.
1- Should I claim the capital loss with CLIQ and PHO and repurchase in 30 days?
2- Are there any names there that I should just sell and move on to something else? What would be your top 3 replacements for the removed names in that case?
3- My initial thought was to inject new money in CLIQ, PHO, DOL, TSGI, DOO and COV to bring these names back to my initial weight. Would this be a good move in your opinion?
These names are part of a diversified portfolio and don’t need the funds for another 10 years minimum.
Much appreciate your service. Your responses to this market volatility have kept me from panicking as I did in 2008. I thank you for that.

Q: Good morning,
I currently do not own the above listed equities from the BE Portfolio which I follow pretty closely. Are there any you would not recommend purchasing right now? Thanks for your counsel. I am watching sector allocations.

Q: As a big time fan of the site (just renewed my subscription) I have a convoluted question to ask.

Based on the advice that is promulgated from 5i, I have purchased the stocks from the balanced portfolio, amongst a few others from the growth folio. With regard to the stocks that I have listed, I took 5i’s advice and purchased piecemeal and as a result my average cost is lower than 5i initial purchase price. No complaint there. The question however that becomes inevitable, is, should there be a recommendation to sell, such as say, CLS, based on a $19 buy in recommendation at 5i as opposed to my 16 Ave cost, wilI the logic still hold? The same applies to the other stocks that I hold.

As a follow up, I note that the monthly portfolio data provides the current price and inception price. Can you explain why you do not adjust the cost price to reflect additional purchases after the initial purchase price, such as wef or wcp?

Thanks in advance, I recommend that anyone who subscribes to the service to renew! It’s a no brainer. And that’s after the October haircut!

Q: Hi, My question is about NR stocks held in the model portfolios. I have created a custom stock universe using all stocks from your coverage list with a rating of B- and higher, plus all NR stocks from the Balance and growth model portfolios. I built a balanced 25 stock portfolio from the universe(all full positions). I have full positions in CLS and TECK.B, You have 1/2 positions in the Balanced port. You also had 1/2 position in RHT. I know RHT was risky for several reasons and AEM, CLS, TECK.b is for diversification? or is there high cyclical risk? For NR stocks i'm not sure how to decide full, half or exclude them. All stocks have different levels and types of risk. Is there a way to mention or grade the risk level and type of risk when adding NR stocks to a port? For example the new additions to the growth port. I assume GDI is lower risk then LGO? Can I consider full positions? I'm just trying to avoid accidentally having a full position in a very high risk NR stock.
Thank you so much!

Q: of all the companies listed, I currently have the same percentage of holding that is in the 5i portfolio. Which of these stocks would you be comfortable buying today and making it a 4-5 % holding as I have some cash and would like to average down. I am a young investor with a long horizon as these stocks are all in my RRSP.

Thanks
