Q: At this stage, would you recommend that I sell my Canfor shares, or hold off a bit longer, in case the Pattison bid is sweetened? I'm about break-even on these shares. Thanks.

Q: Good morning,
What will be the process and typical timeline for the board in considering the Pattison bid for Canfor?
Thank you,

Q: With an offer of $16 on the table I am surprised that the stock is not trading closer to that today- it seems to be hanging around $15 so far. Wondering if you could comment on the discrepancy...

Covalon Technologies Ltd. (COV)
-
Stars Group Inc. (The) (TSGI)
-
Canfor Corporation (CFP)
-
Whitecap Resources Inc. (WCP)
Q: These 4 equities are my top 4 poor performers with a 50-57% unrealized loss. CFP is a 1% position, TSGI is 2%, WCP is 0.5%, COV also 0.5%. I am debating going to a half position on TSGI and pick up AQN. Or maybe dump TSGI all together. I'm not sure what to do with the rest to try and regain some losses here. That said, it seems COV and TSGI have potential as a long term holding but for me it would be to recover losses. Anything you guys can recommend? Thanks
Q: Is the Canfor balance sheet "OK"? I'm thinking about buying some shares of this cyclical stock. The sector and the stock have been hammered pretty badly. I think forest products will eventually recover. Would you recommend staying on the sidelines for now?
Thanks.
Ed
Thanks.

Q: Two separate questions- deduct as necessary.
Forest product stocks appear to be in a trough right now, and weaker housing starts coupled with over-capacity seem to be holding them back with economic concerns in the background casting a shadow as well. I am wondering if you see a bit of a turning point here given recent capacity cuts, strong employment numbers, and a Fed decision to leave things as they are?
Regarding MFI; I struggle with taking profits too soon, but I have a fairly rapid 30%+ gain here. Your thoughts on its ability to maintain these gains or grind higher would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Q: I realize that the performance of the forest products sector (WFT, etc.) will largely track the commodity price of softwood lumber. Prices of SW lumber averaged well over $500 (USD/MBF) one year ago and yet remain below $400 today. If seasonality were a factor, we should be back where we were a year ago - but we are not. Do you have any insight into why the price of lumber (and correspondingly why the entire forest products sector) continues to be so depressed. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Q: looks like forestry shares are dead money for the foreseeable future? presently I hold significant amount in WEF . Unlike the other forestry companies listed it pays a good dividend / heavy into Cedar business so not so exposed to US housing. Should I hold or sell

Norbord Inc. (OSB)

Interfor Corporation (IFP)
Q: I am comfortable having about 10% of my non-registered account in the forest products sector. About 55% of this amount is Norbord and the other 45% is split about evenly among Canfor, Interfor and West Fraser. Norbord pays a good dividend; the others don't. Would you suggest any consolidation or rebalancing here or changes that might improve upside potential? All four are down relative to original purchase so any adjustments here would only trigger tax losses.
Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO THE PRO AND CONS OF HAVING THEM.THANK

Q: Hello 5i,
Thank you for the great work and your valued perspective through this volatility. How would you rank stocks within the Forestry sector today for an investor with a 3-5+ year hold?
The sector is looking interesting to me based on the present weakness in U.S. housing. WEF is up significantly today and your perspective on long-term opportunities in the sector is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Q: What do you think of Canfor Corp (CFP)at this price? The PE is 5.8, top and bottom lines are increasing, they are buying back shares, and a decent balance sheet. They have mills in the S.E. near where all the hurricanes seem to hit. RBC has a one year target of $43.00 and it's trading at $21.26

Q: Re OSB announcing a "dividend of $4.5/share to shareholders of record Sept 1"
....I can't tell whether that is meant to be an ANNUAL or ONE TIME dividend?
.. Are you able to clarify?
Also, could you please comment on the listed stocks...which do you hold most favourable and why, also the suitability of purchase of any of these NOW
Thank-you

Q: Focus: Forestry Sector. No tax implications. One position: IFP.
5i compared/ranked:
- 2018-05-21: CFP vs WEF (Tim)
- 2018-02-05: WFT, CFP, OSB, IFP, WEF, CAS (Victor)
Today, in terms of overall 3-5 year total return including dividends, with some growth, please rank referenced stocks, with basic reasoning.
As usual, thank you for continued wise advice.

Q: I have a small position in CFP. I am thinking of adding to this position. The alternative is to initiate a position in WEF. Please compare the two companies both from a balance sheet aspect and from a future growth prospective.
Thanks, Tim.
Thanks, Tim.
Q: Can you comment the last financial results and give your opinion on this company? What can I expect for the short/medium term if I hold on? Is it worthwhile to hold or better to sell to pursue better opportunities? Finally could you suggest 2 or 3 stocks that would be a good value at this time? Thanks

Q: I'm interested in taking a position in the forestry sector as this high flying sector is seemingly under the radar. Of the following main stocks in forestry: WEF, CFP, CAS, IFP WFT, OSB, kindly rank them in the order of which ones should have the highest growth potential in the next year or so. Thanks.

Q: Regardless of NAFTA the US is going to require lots of lumber to rebuild after their disasters. WEF doesn't have any US mills but the other three do - but it does have a 3% Yield. The others have very low to zero yields. How would you rank these with regard to growth and solid financials over the next 1 - 2 yrs?
Q: I own CFP,WEF,and WFT. All three are down 2 or more % points this morning. Would you read anything into this drop such as NAFTA or otherwise? With thanks, Bill
Q: I looked at OSB(Norbord) and CFP(Canfor) and see that CFP is out preforming others in the field. At present I own CanWel CWX. Of the three which would be your choice? Thanks in advance.
There seems to be flood of info. on each stock and this is where I get confused.
