Q: Wonderful company. Reading their financial statements, however, they are starting to 'speak' less about growth and more about profits, cash flow, dividends. Is there any reasonable work that indicates their market share? Without getting into related/adjacent industries/products do they have any real opportunity to grow left? Thanks for the A+ service!

Q: Could you please comment on Stella-Jones earnings released, this morning and is it good buy at current levels ($40-41)? Thanks
Q: I bought in last week and broke a trading rule I have, which is to always check insider activity. Now I see that there was some material selling in the $34 range. Did I pay too much at $39.75?
Q: Hi,
I hold Stella Jones in my RRSP and know you like the company. I'm considering selling my position in CNR which is held outside my RRSP as many see it as expensive at this point and adding SJ in order to maintain exposure to this sector. Can you compare the valuation of the two and provide your thoughts on my strategy.
Thanks

Q: Hello Peter and the 5i team
My question's are concerning Stella Jones.
1. Who are Stella Jones competitors and how much market share do they have in the rail tie business?
2. Which rail companies are customers of Stella Jones?
3. I have heard that some rail companies are starting to go with cement ( or some other material) for the use of their ties. Is this true? and will it affect Stella J?
4. How much growth do you see in this company over say the next 4-5 years?
5. What is the payout ratio of SJ and is it sustainable?
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter and Team,
This is somewhat of an abstract question but is important for my analysis nonetheless. Can you name a couple Canadian companies that you think would have a strong competitive advantage if they were to expand into the US or a similar country (i.e. Australia)?
Stantec (multinational consultant status advantage for companies in Australia, yet similar legal system) and Cineplex ('purchasing power?') come to mind, but I end up banging my head on the desk when trying to come up with others. Does anything stand out to you guys?

Q: I am looking at adding to my holding in SJ. In your report you mentioned the 38% ownership by SJ Intl (Glasgow Scotland). Would you expect any impact on the stock price from a YES vote simply because of Scottish ownership? Given the growing strength of the US $ what impact would that have on the stock? Lastly what kind of revenue and eps growth would you see over the next couple of years.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks
Mike
Q: Your good work Peter is driving me crazier.
I am basically the 1.2% man…lots of savings accounts.
So,your suggestions at this time for my 23 year old daughters $36,000 TFSA account would be appreciated…it is presently,of course,in cash!
She has no reason to need these funds for the next 10 years at least. Thanks
john
