Q: I currently have about 5%- 7% of my portfolio in materials - SJ and MX specifically. If you accept the thesis that worldwide economic growth is improving would it be wise to also have some metals representation in my holdings or would you expect all materials to grow at the same time - i.e. a rising tide lifts all ships. I was thinking of Teck.B for this purpose if you think it is warranted. I do realize that 3 stocks are usually better than two for diversification but I only want to add (or switch) if you think I would be missing out on an important sector.

Appreciate your insight.

Q: In my portfolio I am overweight in Canadian Financial (Banks) and the US tech stocks, but I have no exposure to the Materials sector (except gold.) Can you please recommend me a few materials and mining stocks (in the order or your preference) or do you suggest an ETF.
Based on the recent weakness of the sector is this the right time to get in this sector? or do you suggest that you should stay away

Q: Hi Peter/Ryan,
What do you think about Stella Jones and CGI group as stocks for long term and having maximum weight of 5% each? I have also noticed companies that have simple and understandable businesses (easy to understand products) can do quite well and do not seem to be attached by short sellers. For example, Boyd Income and CCL Industries, Richards Packaging, etc As a result, i was thinking of initiating a position in Storage Vault for a 3-5 year hold at current price of 2.70. Please comment on whether it is a good time and if i should start with 2% position as opposed to 3 or 4. Thank you

Q: 2 question : So bomber has bounced a bit so time for me to suck it up and sell at a 30% loss. Sell now or hold off a few more days to see if it has some legs.

Once I sell BBD.b what full position of the balanced equity portfolio would you buy right now: ccl, gud, nfi, sis, sj, syz, t or toy? Currently rebalancing my CAD equity portfolio to loosely match your portfolio and those above fill gaps in my allocation. Open to off the list suggestions but already overweigh or OK in financials, energy and tech.

Q: Good Morning,

I asked a question a few days ago on sector allocation. Not sure why it was private. I may have checked the wrong box. Its ok to make the question public to help others here.

Anyway I did as you said and trimmed back REIT's and Financials. I purchased some tech. Added to my SVC and started a position in ET. Today I started a position in BCE. I chose BCE over T.

However I am having trouble choosing between AEM, SJ and MX for my materials purchase. Any insight would be great.

Thanks
Jimmy

Q: These 3 companies are in my Basic Materials, Metals, Mining sector which makes up 8% of my portfolio. With a five year plus hold, would you add, swap or remove any of them and if so could you rank your choices; 1st place, 2nd place, and participant?

Thank you for your help and sharing your inside knowledge and actual experience.

Q: Looking to add a full position in your balanced equity portfolio ( which I am slow adopting). Currently overweight financial and energy so those are off the table. Could more or less add any other class and be ok for weighting. Recently added OTEX and ENGH as tech stocks so those are off the table along with MG, wsp. Which havew the best buying opportunity right now....wish I had picked up MX earlier this week when it tanked 4% on weak earnings...

Q: I am holding smaller positions in all three in a fairly well balanced RSP but I need to convert to a RIF in a couple of years.
Is it time to let these go into some more conservative dividend growers or would you suggest I maintain a balance in my RIF similar to your income and balanced portfolios??
Thanks as always,
Peter

Q: I am starting a TFSA for my wife, who is 5 years from retirement with an adequate pension. The stocks in question will be of equal weight. Your opinion on selection or other suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks
