Q: Hello 5i team
As a front line (nearly retired) physician, I recently received a Covid 19 immunization. It's difficult to express the REMARKABLE sense of gratitude and euphoria that I observed among everyone involved . Suddenly, we felt liberated from the danger of this scourge that we face daily. Our next exciting job is to immunize our fellow citizens as fast as humanly possible and as we do, this euphoria will spread to society at large.
After my immunization I bought a new car and we're booking our fall and winter travel plans. This manic behaviour, I believe, represents the tip of the iceberg for pent up demand which will be unleashed upon the world.
At the risk of being labelled a mercenary can you identify some sectors which are still beaten up and likely to surge-I'm thinking energy but other suggestions welcome (prefer etf's with a dividend to keep me invested until the recovery occurs-would supplement with high conviction stocks)
Thank you. As always, I value your opinions, Regards gary

Q: Hi 5i team,
I recently purchased AC, which is in the balanced portfolio, and it has been going down in the past short while. I've a loss of about 20%. I'm thinking of selling it before year end for capital loss though I do not have capital gain this year to offset the loss. I intend to repurchase it after 30 days but wonder if its momentum will switch and moving higher in price in 30 days. Your opinion please. Thanks and a very merry Xmas to the entire team at 5i.

Q: I have a considerable base of my portfolio in CDN banks. The share prices are approximately flat from where I bought them. Is there any catalyst to make banks outperform in the next year or 2? It feels like there have to be sectors that will bounce well with a recovery and wondering about diverting some funds there to try to catch the bounce on a return to travel and the like. I have nibbled at Air Canada and wonder about some other names that have a high likelihood of surviving and bouncing nicely. Canada or US, moderate risk is OK. Thanks!

Q: Hi 5i. Assuming in Canada there is pent up demand for travel, and dollars sitting in deposit accounts, what Canadian equities in the travel or hospitality space would one consider investing in once Covid-19 abates and travel restrictions are rescinded?
Please list any Canadian equities that you think will benefit from Canadians traveling again. Thanks

Q: Hi!

As part of my industrials sector weighting, I have 4% allocated to transportation. Given the current environment, I believe airlines are the best value, but probably also the riskiest. Nevertheless, my portfolio is reasonably well balanced. Do you think it is prudent to invest my 4% allocation entirely in AC? It clearly provides better value than the railroads and trucking, but as I said, with increased risk.

Thank you,
Jason

Q: Well, Air Canada's all time high was about 50 loonies per share. But now with the recent dilution of existing shareholders, I estimate the revised high will be about $45, adjusted for the dilution, Seems like a floor is forming under AC shares at about $23.60. What say you, aka your guess, and what with all the uncertainty that there is, about will this floor hold? And also what is the long-term guess-estimate target price in 12 months or longer?......Tom

Q: Hello Peter & team,

Read a report that stated bank deposits are up considerably. Reason... It appears People are banking funds without having the opportunity to take their annual vacations because of Covid. Vaccines are in the process of being distributed. There will be an end to the lock down eventually, and when that happens people will be biting at the bit to travel. I know I am.

My question... I'm thinking the beneficiaries of this pent up demand are going to be Cruise Lines, Airlines & Hotels. (plus anything else you can suggest) Are you able to tell us - your loyal 5i family - which companies we should be targeting which will benefit once everyone starts being able to travel again? And if you could, please provide your futures opinion on Air Canada which is still down 50% (approx) compared to it's pre-covid highs. I am seriously considering a strong position and would like to know your thoughts.

Thanks for all you do

Gord

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

I am a newbie here and really impressed by how appreciative members have been to the service you guys provide.

I have very small positions in both AC and GIB.A, and would like to consolidate to one for a long term hold. Could you please rank the two and also provide brief explanation?

Thanks for your insight!

Q: What are your thoughts on the impact of Air Canada’s recent announcement that they are pursuing the cargo market. What is the impact on Cargojet? Will this result in a significant impact on margins? Would you sell Cargojet as a result of the stiffer competition? Are you still concerned of the debt levels in Cargojet? Thanks for your expertise.

Q: Hi,
I’m wondering why TRZ is trading above the (pitiful) $5 new offer by AC. With the vote to be held on Dec15th, I assume that most shareholders will take AC shares as exchange, at a lower price of $17.47, which means a value for TRZ close to $7 now . But wouldn’t that dilute AC stock, with the risk of a sell-off afterwards- or the amount is too small to make a difference? Without the OK from Canadian and European regulators, isn’t any choice risky right now? And selling TRZ at the market a better choice today? Thanks.
