Q: Hi
I am looking at adding or making an initial purchase in the stocks listed. Could you rank these for me based on growth and sustainability. Are there any of these stocks that you would have concerns with purchasing for the short term-2 to 3 years? What would be the concerns?
Thanks, Len
Q: Hello, Would you have 4 top picks in either of these sectors (industrials, consumer staples, consumer discretionary or health care). I am looking for large caps trading on the TSX with good long term potential. Thank you.
Q: On apr 10 you mentioned Wsp was one of the companies growing their dividend. However I believe they have not increased their dividend of $1.50 since they were an income trust known as Genivar. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Q: Retired (25 years) investor, preservation of capital and income paramount. Can you please provide the following, ETF or equity suggestions for:
Basic Materials (hold 2% LIF), Communications Services (hold 4% BCE), Consumer Cyclical and Consumer Defensive (hold 0%), Healthcare (hold 1% HHL), Industrials (hold 0%), Technology (hold TXF 4%).
Thank you for considering my lengthy question for which I apologize.
Q: Hi Peter, several years ago I held a stock that a short position was taken on it and it fell because of that and I lost money due to that. Now I heard that a similar "short" was put on WSP so to avoid a similar situation as before I sold my 40 shares but this time at a profit. In this case the shares aren't acting the same or not yet that is. Was it a mistake, did I over react or is the short warranted. How do you know who to trust. Thanks
Q: Hi Peter, I have about 15000.00 for an RRSP account. I know you can't personalize the account but could you suggest 5 - 10 good Canadian stocks for such an account if looking for income for a 66 year old investor. Thanks
Q: When do you think you will review the short report in detail and provide a full picture of its potential validity. You have indicated some initial thoughts but it sounds like you will conduct a more rigorous review of it. 5i has liked the stock in the past and it would be good to know if the report has changed your view/rating in any way and why.
Q: I have a significant capital gain with WSP. Should I be concerned about this "Spruce Point" attack (known for targeting Canadian and Quebec-based companies)?
Thanks
Q: I'd like to invest a substantial inheritance in solid, relatively safe dividend stocks in a non-registered account for a stream of tax-efficient income. Can you suggest 7-8 stocks for me to consider and do you consider that number enough for diversification? Would you buy in gradually over the year or invest all at once? Is it unwise to invest in Canadian stocks only ( have geographic diversification in my registered accounts)? I won't need the income for 2-3 years and will probably hang on to them for life, whatever that may be (I'm in my late 50s). Thanks. I have tons of credits - use as many as needed.
Q: Thank you for your answer to my earlier question. I just want to clarify. I had asked for current dividend growth ideas for a long term hold. In your answer you mentioned “high dividend”…same suggestions or a little different? Thanks again!
Q: Hi,
I have these in about equal weights and have to let one or two of these go. Can you please list them in order of selling first to last if you were in my shoes.
Thanks
Q: Very disappointed by your reply yesterday to my question which looks like a plain dismissal, as you didn't utter a word on the second part of the question on industrials, while making it private as to avoid embarrassment.
Q: I'm thinking of journaling the above inter-listed securities over to my US RSP account as a currency play (I'm expecting CAD weakness vs USD over next 1-2 years). Other than CAD dividend exchange rate fees, are there other caveats to be aware of with any of these securities specific to their US listings? I.e. liquidity on NYSE? Thank you.
Q: WSP is frequently favourably mentioned in the Q & A and its share price has been on a nice run (about 30% in the last 12 months). But at present its P/E is about 50 and its Price / Cash Flow is above 28. Are these matrices somewhat concerning? Apart from J:US (which I also own), do any of its peers look more appealing? Thanks much for your excellent service.
