Q: I plan to sell these stocks for a tax loss and then buy them back after 30 days. Could you suggest a proxy stock that I could buy as a replacement for the 30 days

Q: In a diversified portfolio where I want to add to the above holdings, please indicate in order, which one you would add to first and so on.

Please of course consider the stock appreciation potential, the markets and are these in favorable segments or not, etc.

Thanks

Q: Based on your reply to Paul on May 9th...."We think buying over a year will end up looking pretty good in two or three years". Of the following Companies that make up my portfolio what would be your TOP 3 conviction names to ADD to over the next year based on long term growth potential, good valuation, well run, good management, no brainer this will be a good investment type choice. There is opportunity here so don't want to miss the boat. Yes everything is down. Yes people are panicking. But it will go back up and simply want to focus my energy on the ones with more conviction. I don't need the money for the next 15-20 yrs but don't want to be a moron either and be happy with a bit of dividend here and there when I could see larger returns by making a good decision today. Thanks again.

Q: 1. Can you please provide your analysis of these 2 companies.

2 I presently have a 2% position in ATA, and am considering adding. It has dropped from its high of $50+ to the mid $30s. What are the chances for a good bounce back?

3. in an answer last year, it seemed you were quite lukewarm about SNC. It seems to have held up better in the current down draft. What are its current prospects and do you see it more favourably in its current circumstances?

4. I also have a near 3.5% position in WSP. If it were you, would you add to ATA or WSP, or initiate a position in SNC?

Thank you for your excellent service.

Q: Ross Healey on Market Call this morning was asked a question about WSP . He didn't just dislike it he said " it belongs in the trash bin " and went on to make a case that it was WAY over valued . He was scathing in his criticism ...... I own it and sitting on a 278% profit and because of that rise it has risen to an 8.4% position ..... Which is a tad over my comfort level but not unduly for a blue chip company . But I've got to admit he scared me a bit .... Could you comment on his thesis ? Thanks Garth ....

Q: The phrase “Don’t trust anyone over 30” was coined in the 60’s, but as I head into CPP eligibility age I’m kind of leaning the other way, and so hope Peter can answer this one.

I remember the energy crisis of the 70’s, stagflation, price and wage controls and bought a home after the housing bubble burst in the 80’s and watched many of my new neighbours wait 10 years or more to get back to what they had paid. I loved rolling over 90 day GIC’s (remember Trust Companies?) at double digit interest rates but wasn’t invested in equities.

Specifically on the question of stagflation, if we end up in that horrible scenario again is there such thing as a good stock to hold? If so, can you provide 5 to 10 that you would want in your portfolio?

Thanks again for your steady hand on the wheel lately.
