Q: Hi 5i,
A question regarding TOU:
I've reviewed its website - very impressive and informative by the way! - and can't find any indication that TOU intends to send gas to the Canadian west coast for export as LNG. All gas it markets for LNG export seems to go through the US to the east coast or the Gulf.
I'm wondering if I understand this correctly and, if so, why wouldn't TOU take advantage of west coast LNG facilities in Canada and is it missing out by not doing so? (I know the TOU management is very smart so if they don't send gas to our west coast there's no doubt good reason - but I don't know what it might be ...).
Thanks for any insight you're able to provide.

Q: Happy New Year and thank you for the valuable service you have provided over the last 10 years.
I am considering doing a transfer in kind from my RRIF to my TFSA of both TOU-T and WELL-T. Both are showing a loss in my RRIF (poor timing on my part), but I think a recovery is likely and that they are good long term holds. May I have your comments on whether to do the transfer, continue to hold them in my RRIF, or sell them outright and then transfer cash and add to NVEI-T which is currently showing a loss in my TFSA?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Q: For a growthy TFSA contribution for 2024, I’m considering one of these companies. Please rank based on potential gains for a 3-5 year period, with a brief comment on each one. Moderate to high(ish) risk (like SHOP) is fine with me.

Also, are there any other companies you’d recommend I consider and why.
Thanks for such a great service.

Q: Hello,

Can you rank CNQ, SU and Toumaline in order of preference for overall returns? If owning only one which would be your choice? Is the recent pullback in prices a good opportunity to buy into the sector or should a person stay on the sidelines for a bit to see how the economy slows in the next half year? This is for a new account so no position yet. Income with some growth preferred. Please take credits as needed. Thank you! Great service.

Q: To what extent is the comparatively higher sell off in Canadian oil & gas producers attributed to Guilbault's promise to cap our Canadian production as a green initiative. How serious is this recent Trudeau government threat coming out of COP28 in Dubai? I hold TOU and CNQ but it is an energy general question.

Q: I wish to make my holdings in the energy sector more resilient to market turmoil and retain those holdings that have strong economic fundamentals plus pay a reasonable dividend. Can you recommend any that represent a good entry at this time.

Q: Hi, Energy sector has been weak for past few months, for a variety of reasons. Oil and NG prices have been drifting lower and OPEC keeps sending mixed signals. US sanctions on Russia have only produced a muted response, with their Oil finding its way to India, China and many other countries. Oil is hovering back to $70 level and still there is no sign of US ready to fill in their SPR. After a strong 2021 and 2022 (and 1st half of 2023), do you think, current weakness could be temporary and it's just a short term breather ? Or, considering the cyclic nature of the sector ( possible recession concerns ) and history, it might be time to take some profits and reduce the sector weight, from your generally suggested 10% to say 5% ? If so, would you trim equally or in any order among these holdings ? Thank You

Q: Can you recommend a few other Canadian value stocks like SLF, with a low P/E, good dividend and little or no debt - it would appear that SLF has a net of about $74B in cash.
Thanks!

Q: I intend to use as many losing companies such as above POU, RY, TOU and MG (presently underwater) against a significant amount of capital gains to reduce my taxes for 2023. I will probably buy them back in the new year. What is wrong with this approach? Please explain.
Thank you.

Q: Hello,
I own above stocks, and with the current conflict in the middle east, which one(s) would you add to today? assuming oil hovers around current price of ~ $ 80.00.
Also, which ones are rumored for a take over?
As well, which ones have the strongest financials to grow the dividend?

Thanks
Carlo
