Q: Hello 5i team
I am down 72% on ALA in my RSP and. 54% down on VET in my RSP
My ALA is a huge position and my loss is over 10,000 . My RSP strategy was “buy and hold” , and I was previously murdered in oils in 2014. I am 69 years old and won’t really rely on my RiF but it really bothers me to take such a loss that can’t be declared. They both pay dividends , but can one expect that they will ever turn around ? I could use a suggestion ... the last time I looked at my RSP I was so ashamed that I bought Shopify as a crap shoot ... turned out to be a good move. Thank you

Q: I own shares in ALA and CHR. Disappointed in decreasing stock valuations in both companies over the last year. Do you see these as buy, sell or hold?
Thank you,
Susan
Thank you,
Susan
Q: Down 50%. Should I continue holding / sell at current price or buy more and average down.
Thank you
Thank you
Q: Would you agree or disagree with an analysis made by Motley Fool today on Yahoo Finance ?
Q: If I understand correctly I would have to purchase ALA common shares no later than the close of business on Jan 23rd to get the monthly dividend as the stock goes ex-dividend on Jan 24th.
Since I sold the stock on December 24th I would count that as the first day I didn't own the stock. 30 days starting December 24th would take me to Jan 22nd, so provided I bought the stock on Jan 23rd, I could claim the capital loss and get January's dividend. Do you agree?
The stock has gone up nicely since I sold it on December 24th but it is "seller beware" so to speak! (Are the shorts getting squeezed)?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: I bought both of these for dividend. But of course I'm not comfortable with the huge losses. Both are down significantly and not recovering well. Are there any reasons to hold these or should the money be put elsewhere?
Thanks,
John

John

Q: ALA: Sorry, another question about ALA. I just want to confirm: Is your best advice to sell ALA, take the loss (in my non-registered account) and move on, despite the 50% loss in share price? Besides ENB as an alternative for a long term income objective, what other quality stocks would you recommend now?
Q: Your thoughts on the announcement today and dividend cut. Thank you.
Q: Hi 5i.
I made an impulsive and uneducated buy of ALA a few months ago and have been rewarded with a 45% kick in the you-know-what. Fortunately, it has been a painful but not catastrophic experience. The buy is in a cash account.
I favour a buy-and-hold strategy but ALA has me constantly questioning my next move. I understand that ALA has a lot of debt and interest rates are not helping their cause. I am expecting a cut in the dividend (like everyone else). I know you have recently published an extensive set of your own rules to live by regarding equities with one of them being 'sell your losers' (paraphrased).
Simply put, is ALA dead-in-the-water or does it have long-term possibilities?
Thanks in advance.................Martin

Q: Alta Gas is down about .50% from around $30.00 to around $15.00. Some financial experts recommend Alta Gas all the way down. What did they do wrong? Other financial experts recommend avoid and a few sell--kudos to them. What are your thoughts now?
Q: Good day gentlemen,
Given the last earnings report. I believe the company provided some guidance going forward in regards to FFO with the wgl acquisition built in. Is there a price where this stock can be bought?

Q: AltaGas is due to report on December 13(Thursday) and they say they will be addressing the dividend. I think we all agree there will be a cut .My question is-- what is your best guess as to the stock rising or going down after the cut.
Thank you
Al
Thank you

Q: As I am retired and trying to accumulate dividends, I foolishly moved ala to my tsfa from my cash account. Now that it has drifted to a low ebb, I cannot claim a loss on selling. I know I should move on, but am Looking for a good dividend stock as replacement..
I appreciate all the advice that I read.

Q: Good morning,
As an income investor, I have the following utility holdings that amount to about 12% of my non-registered holdings: FTS (up 10%), EMA and NPI (breaking even) and ALA (down 50%). I have no need to sell any of these and enjoy the dividends, but as a conservative senior and in a rising interest rate environment do you think it would be prudent to unload/reduce some of them or just hang on? If sell/reduce which should be the first to go?

Q: I have many shares of ALA and am significantly underwater about 50% I cannot sell for tax-loss, shares are in a RRSP account. New CEO reporting on Dec 13, expect dividend to be cut at that time? Would you recommend holding or selling to buy ENB.
Thanks as always.
Thanks as always.

Q: I assume ALA spun out ACI to reduce debt. Given the positive recommendations on ACI while ALA shares continue to decline, it appears to be short gain for long term pain. Thus, I am confused as to why ALA did this. Also, with ALA in the doldrums, would it make sense to take my loss in ALA and buy ACI? Or should I stick with ALA for greater rebound potential?
