Q: Today Rose Ambrose ,who is involved in the NAFTA talks, indicated that unless Canada compromises Trump will impose the 25% auto tariffs on September 1, 2018.

So how can Canada negotiate/compromise if our negotiators are not invited to participate in the negotiations between the Mexicans and the Americans.

Since very little time is left between now and September 1, 2018 and since Canada is sidelined, is it fair to assume that Trump’s 25% auto tariffs will be implemented?

What is your opinion?

Q: I have listed a few comapnies that I believe are in the, let's call it "Tariff Penalty Box". My thinking is as follows:
1) They have already been hurt by the threat of tariffs.
2) If the tariffs do not come, they will 'pop'.
3) If the tariffs do come, they will also move up as the clarity of actual tariffs should ease concerns compared to the threat of nebullous, potential tariffs.

Does this seem reasonable to you? And do you agree that these four should all be on this list and are there others you would add to it?

Q: I have both of these in my TFSA and am considering selling LNR and buying more PPL. LNR has tanked 16% since I bought it and PPL is up a little and has good dividends. I’m looking for dividend income and some growth over the next 5 years. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. TIA

Q: I notice that MG is doing much better than LNR right now.
Would you choose LNR for growth over MG or is there to much uncertainty with the US trade situation to consider either.

Linamar's price has fallen a lot since the earning release. What is the company's outlook next 1-2 years? Is it a good time to buy a partial position? If yes, is it better in TFSA or taxable account?

Q: In tracking these four auto parts companies, all seem to have been doing very well in this volatile market. Even ACQ enjoyed a ~5% bump today! Wondering if the reason is somehow related to Trump's tariff controversy. Thanks.

Linamar (LNR) and Magna (MG) have had significant gains in the last year and are both near their all-time highs.
I got in both at much lower price and was wondering if this is a good time to sell and take the profit or do you see both reaching new highs in 2018?

Q: LNR is obtaining $100 mln in grants from federal and provincial govs. What caught my attention was this : "It also said the grants will support a Linamar innovation centre focused on technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and collaborative robotics". Do you have any insights beyond this press release on what LNR is planing to do or what it has done so far in this area? How do they compare to Magna in this area?
