Q: Why are BIP.UN and BEP.UN are being hit so hard in the last few days? Especially BIP.UN today down over 3% again?

Q: Hi 5i team.
about 6 weeks ago sold AQN for a tax loss and increased position in FTS and bought some BEPC on top of BEP.UN as I am thinking of switching to BEPC to make life less complicated tax wise.
Problem (and a good one to have) is that I have a large capital gain in BEP.un.

Utilities portions as total of all portfolio.
BEP.UN is about 2%
BEPC about 1%
Fortis about 2%
Polaris about 1%

Question is what to sell or reduce to add in AQN back at about 2%?
Would you suggest a different mix?
I like the dividends and am OK w slow to moderate growth - retiree and looking at conservative ongoing investment. (I like all of these stocks.)

I am willing to pay some taxes as I worry about the capital gains tax rate rising at some point under our current government.
Subtract as many questions as needed.

What is the annual return for ENB since it went public when you include dividends & largest drawdown?

Would a 20% position in ENB for a retired person looking for income make sense?

What are the 5 safest Canadian & US stocks that would provide the best protection against drawdowns?

Q: I own 5% (my max) weightings in BIP.UN and BEP.UN. I've always wanted to invest in BAM.A, but avoided this with a concern of too much overlap. However, now with the upcoming BAM.A spin-off, could one then make more of a case ? i.e. to invest that 5% in the "Asset-light" unit once this split occurs?

If you agree with that, do you have any concerns with a 15% overall weighting within the Brookfield group?

Q: I own a mixture of these in both my RIF and non registered accounts and wish to consolidate them so as to only own one of each. Capital gains and tax need not to be considered. Which version of these 2 companies would you have in each of my two accounts ? Thanks.

I'd like to add a position (or 2) in each of the following sectors: REIT (TCN or GRT.UN or CAR.UN or a better idea), energy (CNQ or SU or a better idea) and industrial (already own WSP, TFII, XYL, TT and could add to one of these or consider a better idea). I could also use a utility suggestion (either add to FTS or AQN or add BEP.UN). And, I'm always looking for an opportunity to add BAM.A to my portfolio. In what order would you add or take new positions given the current environment being favourable to a given sector and/or a good entry point for a particular stock.

Q: What would account for ATCO's lackluster performance over the last 10 years? Lumpy earnings? The chart looks quite good in the years prior to 2012, and the dividend appears to have been raised fairly regularly.

As a retired dividend stock investor, I am interested in it's diversification. I do have exposure to the Brookfields, but do you think there is enough difference between ATCO and BIP/BEP to warrant an investment in this company?

Q: CSU and BEP.UN are graded A and are your only A grade companies in Canada. What might be an A grade company from the U.S. if you were to grade?

Q: Hi - I held above utility and telecome stocks. With CPI hits 40 years high in Canada, BOC will likely rise 75bps in July. Do you think income stocks will be under pressure as yeild % may not be compelling anymore due to higher GIC rate. Which names would you sale first in a risk off environment?

Q: BEPC/BEP.UN seems to be one of your darlings in utility/renewables sector and you have been highly recommending it for a combination of growth and income. However, it's one of the worst performing stocks in my portfolio in the past two months and I'm wondering what's wrong with it (or what's changed)? The stock is down 20% while others either just declined slightly (e.g. EQN) or even had gains (e.g. FTS). It looks like, during recent selloff, the BEPC stock is behaving more like a technology stock rather than a utility. Do you have any explanation for such a big drop? Are you still considering this company one of the best utility/renewables investments? Thanks.
