Q: I hope you all had a great holiday. This is for when you get a chance.
I am planning trigger a loss by selling DG to help offset all the capital gains that I will have in 2024. Wanting to replace it with WMT, Cost, L, MRU or EMP.A. Looking for net return. Your thoughts please.

Q: Hi 5i,
What’s your thesis on Empire? I’ve held the position for several years and it seems to be the perennial underperformer of the grocers (MRU, L). Trying to decide whether it’s time to cut the position and move on to better opportunities.

Q: What is your current assessment of George Weston. Its share price is down about 20% since its high of 4-5 months ago, and seems to be in a downward trend. It has a fairly small dividend. Q: I am debating taking a half position in MRU and EMP-A or a full position in DIR-UN. The two grocery stores are down a bit but will there not be consumer pressure to keep prices reasonable which could influence profits? I have no idea! What would the experts at 5i suggest here?

Q: I am a holder of MRU and currently trying to decide if I should either trim or sell and deploy capital somewhere else. the P/E seems high, relative to pears, and it has had a good run recently. My holdings represent 4.0% of the portfolio, but would love to get a little juicier yield. Is it still and good holding in a recession situation? Your perspective would be appreciated.

Q: Please recommend, especially during this uncertain economic times, two to three Consumer Staple stocks to hold, again for longer than 5 years. My aim is 5 % yield but I do understand that yields for good quality companies are usually low. I would be happy to invest in those with really strong growth down the road. This is what I have compiled with: NWC, PBH, ATD, EMP.a, L, MRU. By all means, please include ones that you feel would serve this purpose.
