Q: Merry Christmas 5i folks.

Thanks for everything this year. Overall very solid returns achieved.

I was holding ZWT and then added QMAX (to compare for a bit and then consolidate) for Sector exposure, but when I looked at my whole portfolio, AMZN, MSFT, NVDA, GOOG and SHOP, through 40-600% gains (many thanks), have become about a third of my portfolio, but also represent 40 and about 22% of ZWT and QMAX. With their fortunes tied so heavily to my individual holdings, is it worth holding a sector ETF?

Conversely, I kept teeter-tottering on which Canadian bank was going to be "The best" over the next few years +, and not pulling the trigger. Based on some of your other answers recently, I settled on going with a 6% position in ZEB, and am ultimately pretty happy with the lower management fee and equal weighting approach, and having a holding in the financials. Do you think the outlook for the financial space over the next few years would justify a higher weighting? Would adding a small position in PRL or something make it more complete?

On the small caps side of things, I have positions in PNG, TCS, CLBT, TMDX, ASPN, HPS and CALF. CALF has been sort of... uninteresting, and I'm considering selling it and initiating a couple more small caps for more torque. Front runners currently are VHI, ZDC, WELL, MDA. Thoughts? Any others you would put in there? Would you dump ASPN for UFPT?

Given how weak the Canadian dollar is right now, would you prioritize US or dual listed companies? Or will Canadian ones get a 'Double boost' if we can get some strength back in the loonie?

Thanks for everything, and Have a great new year!

James

Q: Greetings 5i team,
For my 2025 TFSA contribution, I will be adding to existing holdings as listed above. In what order might a person add to these three companies. I note the 6% drop in EQB today.
Thank you very much as always

Q: There was a recent very good Q&A asked by Dan that I can no longer find. He had requested a list of (7) quality companies in the $5B market cap range. I recall WELL, GSY and TVK as part of that group....can't remember the others.

I was hoping that you could find that list and rank them by:

- current valuation

- management quality (if known)

- growth potential

- balance sheet quality

Q: Since the last question on PTK, it seems to go up and up. Has anything changed? Has 5is opinion changed?

They won "Best in Artificial intelligence" in the "Global Tech Awards". Does this mean anything? Looking at the judges for this organization, there does appear to be some people with some clout in there, but scrutinizing it a bit it seems to be very much marketing focused, and with 86 categories and 200 companies, not the broadest competition.

It looks like it spikes every couplefew months, followed by up to 20% retreat, and spikes again. I almost feel like swing trading this or something.

With your recent small cap likes, PNG, MDA, ZDC, and BRM, Would you please Rank them from best to worst with a solid entry price (I know you said MDA is good right now), expected growth for 2025, whether they're profitable (yes, no, or close), and a score of 1 - 10. (1 being moonshot, 10 Solid buy). IE {NVDA, profitable X%, 10} sort of thing.

All of these scores exclude the normal smallcap risks etc (i understand that MDA is considerably larger, and is primarily in here for comparison purposes)

Thanks a tonne, James

Q: In the higher risk/higher reward small cap part of a portfolio, which of these 7 companies would you be interested in holding? BRM, E, FORA, MCB, MDA, ZDC, ZOMD. Any that stand out as particularly attractive, and any that you would be opposed to adding to an existing small cap portfolio?

Q: Going to do a little re-balancing and the result will be the addition of one new { possibly two depending on your answer } stocks to the portfolio ...... Between ISRG, CPH, GLXY, and MDA please rank from first choice to last giving each a numerical score between one and ten with ten being best . This will allow me to evaluate how much you like one better than the other ......Also a short blurb on each explaining why ......Thanks for your terrific service Garth ......

Q: May I have your current thoughts on MDA? Any concerns on the latest quarter? Is executive compensation “reasonable”. I get the impression you considered the stock a hold or a weak buy back in July. Is my understanding correct and if so are you more favourable disposed to the stock now?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: Hi Peter…I see both SIS & NFI set 52 week highs today with NFI up 40% year to date. I have owned SIS for a number of years thanks to 5i, so thanks again! I also owned NFI about 10 years ago and sold my shares in stages generating a profit every time, and yes the profits shrank as time passed! I know you’re negative on NFI, but you also recommend buying stocks which set new highs. I’m considering selling my Super Micro and buying either NFI, SIS, MDA or SHOP. Of the 4 I have an existing position in SIS only. I believe I am an “aggressive” investor but Super Micro’s roller coaster ride is testing me. I have owned NVDA since 2017 which I consider to be a core holding. Maybe I don’t need to own 2 chip makers? I’m perplexed, could you give me some guidance?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: I'm thinking of replacing my MAL shares with MDA for about a 2 to 2.5% position . { MAL is currently 1% so it would be a position size increase but still on the small side } ..... I notice the market cap of MDA is three times the size of MAL as well ..... It looks to me like MAL is a recovery play and MDA is a growth play. Could 5i give me a brief outlook on the short term and long term prospects of both and your preference between the two companies ? And whether a term I often see 5i use is applicable here ? The term is " We do not see it as need to own " ...... Thankyou for your terrific service .....
