Q: Hello, I am looking at investing a small part of my portfolio into Bitcoin. I don't want to hold real bitcoin, can you suggest a couple ETF's in Canada that I could purchase?

Q: Hi 5i team,

I am wondering if we should switch from the Canadian to the US spot Bitcoin ETFs, which have lower fees and higher liquidity. The US ETFs charge as low as low as 0.20%, while the Canadian ones charge around 0.88%. The US ETFs also have more trading volume and assets than the Canadian ones.

However, moving to the US ETFs would also involve some costs and risks, such as currency conversion, tax implications, and exchange rate fluctuations. It might also be too early to judge the performance of the US ETFs, as they are very new.

Please share your thoughts.

Best,
Matt

Q: Hi. I’m thinking of investing 2 to 4% of my portfolio in crypto as a diversifier: half in Bitcoin and half in Ethereum. But for a number of reasons I don’t want to invest directly myself, I’m thinking ETFs might be a good option. Have you done some research on Canadian Bitcoin ETFs and Ethereum ETFs? Which ETF for each coin would you recommend? Do you know which ones purchase the crytos directly? Or do they use future contracts, which I understand when they are rolled over causes slippage in the price of the ETF versus the underlying Bitcoin. Also, in the consideration is which one has the best MER? And final consideration which one has the best tracking error. Could you tell the best ETF for both Bitcoin and Ethereum, and why. Or are there better options in the US? Or do you think it is just a bad strategy overall?

Q: I am becoming interested in bitcoin. I have not invested because I don’t really understand it. But I see a number of trust-worthy people getting very interested. It seems to be seen as an alternative and often a better alternative than holding gold. In your view what is the risk level of holding bitcoin at this point in its evolution? And can you suggest any educational material on the subject? Finally, what would you suggest for buying if someone is interested?
Thanks for the great service as always

Thank you for your insight,

Q: Hello 5i Team
I am researching Bitcoin ETFs and it appears there are four ETF trading in the Canadian market (CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF; Evolve Bitcoin ETF, Ninepoint Bitcoin ETF; and Purpose Bitcoin ETF).
Questions I have are:
1 – Are there any other Bitcoin ETF available in Canada?
2 – Do Bitcoin ETF trade in the US market or are Bitcoin ETF in the USA waiting for SEC approval?
3 – All four Canadian listed ETF trade in both Canadian and US dollar versions on the TSX – which is the better version to purchase and why?
4 – What are the Assets under management for each ETF (as of end of day June 04)?
5 – What would be your ranking of ETF to purchase?
Thank you

Q: Please give me your thoughts on the above. The first two are ETFs , and that to me means covering more than one crypto currency ? Could you elaborate on this and what they cover as an ETF ? Their mer's = 1%. What is the diff. between QBTC and QBTC.U and is there an mer on these ? If you were to buy Bitcoin in a TFSA, would it be one of these or would you recommend another one that might have lower management fees. Looking at these 4 on the stock market today, QBTC is up 2.76% while the 2 first ones are up less than 1% ? I certainly like a 2.76% daily increase ! Thanks for any info.
